You can round off your trip to Peru with a visit to the amazing Amazon rainforest. You’ll stay in a comfortable lodge and have two days to explore the rainforest.

Day

Flight to Puerto Maldonado

After a short flight from Cuzco to Puerto Maldonado, a lodge representative will welcome you at the airport.

You will then head to the Amazon lodge's office in town (approx 15 minutes by van) for you to pack the necessary gear for the next few days and leave the rest, securely stored, behind.

Depending on your arrival time, you may have up to 2 hours free in Puerto Maldonado while the rest of the travelers in your fellow group arrive.

Travel by bus or motorized canoe to the Amazon lodge. Boats are 20 foot long roofed canoes with outboard motors.

Once you arrive at the lodge there is time to unpack and unwind before a short orientation and briefing on the lodge.

After dinner there is time to go to the river shore with the local guide and use our headlamps/torches to spot the red gleams of the reflection of caimans' eyes.

Rooms at the lodge are simple but comfortable and there are flushing toilets, showers, mosquito nets and kerosene lamps. The staff in the lodge is primarily local, including the multilingual guides, who can teach you all about the area's rich flora and fauna. Please note drinks and tips are not included while at the jungle lodges.

Lodge - 3 nights (AAA) (BLD)

Please note: Due to availability we may use alternative Amazon lodges, whilst the nature of activities will be roughly the same the journey times may vary.

Explore the Amazon

The next two days are packed with activities. You will wake at dawn to the sounds of bird calls and travel by boat and foot to the oxbow lake. Cruise around the lake and keep an eye out for turtles, hoatzin and other local species of birds.

Activities may vary depending on the time of the year and weather however they normally include wildlife spotting and jungle walks with the opportunity to learn from a local guide about the many resources the Amazon provides from medicine to construction and food.

After dinner retire for the night or sit back and take in the many sounds of the Amazon jungle!
