Reviews
Don't take our word for it - read through our customer reviews. All of these have been published without any editing. The Serengeti tent camp, safari drives, photo opportunities, magnificant landscapes, Zanzibar beach resort, the people in our group
[Least enjoyed] One or two of the drives were quite long. Some of the prices seemed very steep e.g. $50 per car to visit a Masai village for only a short time; similarly $26 per person for a spice tour of just about one hour (including drive to and from hotel). The booking information gave guidance on driver/guide prices of $20 per day divided by the whole group, but we were told by the local head driver (Martin) that the price was $30 (50% more) which caused a problem on two fronts: firstly, budgetting and secondly, expectations. Different people have different experiences and so the group was left to sort out what we thought was a reasonable compromise. It would be better if this part of the holiday was included in the price to avoid such problems.
Given the number of times we had to fill in our personal and hotel details at Airports, it would have been helpful to have had this information provided in one place beforehand. In particular, for the Zanzibar transfer we did not know which hotel we were going to and our luggage did not arrive with us on the Precision Air flight from Arusha to Stonetown. We had to fill in a form for the missing luggage indicating where we were staying; had to get someone to find our driver outside Arrivals at Stonetown to pass us this information. Further, we had to spend the first night in Stonetown without our luggage and no one including the hotel staff and travel rep (Ally) were particularly helpful in providing us with basic toiletries for the night (at this stage we did not know when our luggage would be returned). Ally did, however, turn up the following day to take us to the Airport to collect our luggage.
We had no issues with the accommodation provided.
We were given a different amount by the group leader for the payment of drivers which was 50% greater than the details provided in the booking information. There ought to have been clearer lines from the Adventure Company about this to avoid such problems. Far better to have paid for this upfront rather than an extra (extra)!

Our driver said we had to pay 30$ per day per car - your typed info said 20$ per day so there was quite a difference! I strongly feel tips should be just those - something you pay if you are pleased with a level of service - this was a payment which should be included in the cost of the holiday; my guess is that it is their pay packet you are giving them not just a 'tip'. Our whole group felt the same...
In our tanzania serengeti safari - the trip up to the northern part of the serengeti was a long drive 6 hours there and back for no visible reason - none of us knew why you would want to drive all the way up there only to come back the next morning! unless is was the migration season (which it wasnt); it felt like we went all that way just to stay in the lodge; we would have preferred to stay where we were in the camp and get in some extra animal spotting rather than two days extra driving.
I felt the safari drivers were too casual about tsetse flies; windows should have been up when we went through these areas; and advice given about what to wear... however standard of driving was good overall - felt safe.

*** Comment from The Adventure Company ***
Thank you for your comments on this tour. You have raised some interesting points and we will discuss these issues with our agent in Tanzania.
Being in Tanzania at the time of the migration which completely exceeded my expectations. The provision of two vehicles for a group of only 8 was excellent and generous.
[Least enjoyed] The mobile camp!!! although staff , food and beds were excellent I am of an age that like my comfort!
[Accommodation] Only problem we had was sorted quickly and efficiently

From the moment we set foot in Tanzania we were bombarded with sights that we will never forget. From the people going about everyday life in the roadside villages, to the colourful Maasi and huge numbers of animals, it was a non-stop delight.
The highlights for us were hearing the trumpeting of elephants during a squabble (so loud it went through you!), lion cubs catching each others tails, the sight of thousands of wildebeest and zebras migrating across the Serengeti, hippos pools with crocodiles swimming amongst them. All that with amazing accommodation and food throughout.
Our 12 year old loved the two nights camping, although with lions roaring outside at night I was pleased to get back the lodges again! At every place we stayed it was clean and welcoming. The swimming pools were a bonus, and the views from two of our lodges stay were incredible.
The guides from Tropical Trails, Wilson and Ole, were outstanding throughout. Wilson spotted animal tracks in the road and even jumped out to pick up a porcupine quill from the roadside for the girls to see and show them the whistling acacia. They looked after us from beginning to end and just when we thought things couldn't get any better they would show us another sight to blow us away.
For the first time ever I was sad to leave and come home, and my husband (who was not the most enthusiastic at the thought of this particular holiday!) hasn't stopped telling everyone what an incredible trip it was.
