This is a comprehensive journey through three South American countries - Mexico, Belize & Guatemala. Marvel at the remains of the fascinating Mayan civilisation as you explore the imposing ruins of Chichen Itza and jungle ensconsed Palenque. Enjoy the great outdoors at lakeside Panajachel and then experience a taste of local life at your family homestay. Soak up the atmosphere in the colourful markets of this intoxicating region. In Belize at San Ignacio the pace slows in this laid back town. The beaches of Caye Caulker, Tulum and Playa del Carmen offer plenty of time to relax.

Mayans and Mystical Ruins

As you clamber over the magnificent ruins of Chichen Itza consider that there is much more to this site than just archeology. These remains are also an impressive fusion of science and religion. The staircase of the 91-stepped pyramid is perfectly aligned so that at spring and autumn equinoxes light cast on snake carvings gives the illusion of the snakes ascending or descening the staircase - amazing skills from a civilisation founded in 432. At Palenque amidst dense tropical jungles you will discover another impressive Mayan ruin site.

A Cocktail of Culture

As well as exploring Mayan ruins, this trip shows you the rich culture in this region. You will visit local markets, where brightly clothed Mayan Indians meet to buy and sell their wares. In the Guatamalan Highlands the hills around Lake Atitlan are scattered with villages where a traditional life style still exisits. You spend a night in a family homestay to give you a real chance to experience local life here. In Belize you experience an English speaking, cosmopolitan and somewhat chilled out, live and let live, atmosphere which is very infectious. The food in this region is also worth a mention with many local delicacies to try from tasty tacos to mouth-watering empanadas.

Sun & Sand

From the island beaches and warm waters of Caye Caulker, to tranquil Mexican Tulum and then to vibrant Playa del Carmen; this trip has plenty of time for relaxation and beach fun. Go snorkelling, diving, or searching for manatees in the clear blue waters. Laze in your hammock with a chilled margarita and watch the evening sunset.
