Trip Overview: 

The famous Lycian Way is rightly renowned as one of Europe's best walking routes. Enjoy leisurely walks along this coast, rich with history, watch the sea crash against the cliffs and marvel at the archeological sites, some dating back to Roman and Greek times. A week walking along this coastal path is sure to invigorate the senses.

Fly to Antalya

Fly to Antalya and transfer to your accommodation in Ovacik. Pension - 1 night

Yayla Kuzdere

Yayla Kuzdere

Your walk begins today and the destination is Kuzdere (950m) which is reached through Goynuk gorge. This pathway used to be an important trade route with Lycia. You walk up this beautiful gorge amidst shady pine forests, breaks in the tree cover allow some stupendous views along the way. You will cross the river once, which in autumn is dry bed, but in the spring there is a chance for a refreshing paddle or swim to take you to the other side. You will overnight in a village house. Beycik via Olympos Mountain

Beycik via Olympos Mountain

Farewell to your village hosts this morning and continue along the trail to reach Mt Tahtail, or Mt Olympus as it is more widely known by its former name. This limestone peak sits at 2388m. Making this ascent is a real highlight of the trip, the going can be challenging but you will be well rewarded at the top by the fantastic views across country and coast. From the saddle the descent to Beycik follows a mule trail. Pension - 1 night  (B)

Climbing Mt. Olympos is optional. For those who choose to do so you will set off at around 5am. Those opting to just go over the ridge will start a couple of hours later.

Today you follow the Lycian Way and continue to the south. A much easier day today as we make a gradual descent to the coast, finally arriving at the beach at Cirali. Pension - 1 night  (B)

Cirali

A well deserved free day today allows you to enjoy the beach at Cirali. This long sandy beach is a great place to relax. In the evening you can take an optional trek to see the Eternal Flame (approx 2 hours), after which you might enjoy dinner at a beachside restaurant. Pension - 1 night  (B)

Adrasan

Adrasan

This morning starts with a chance to explore the ruins of Olympos, it was once one of the most imporant cities in the Lycian Union. There is not too much left to show of this these days, you can see a few walls, a theatre, a bathing house and the remains of some houses one with a mosaic floor still intact. You pass the river which now little more than a stream, once was a major waterway including a sea harbour. Then a zig zag climb takes you over the saddle of Moses Mountain or Musa Dag as its locally known. A desending mule trail takes you through forests and past deserted farmhouses to reach the coastal farming village of Adrasan where you will overnight. (approx 5 hours walking) Pension - 1 night  (B)

Antalya

You follow a rocky footpath today which takes you up through pine forest to reach fantastic sea views at the top (approx 1 hour). The path continues up and down following the contours of the coast, until you descend to reach Gelidonya lighthouse. From there you will transfer to Antalya for your final night. (6-7 hours walking) Pension - 1 night  (B)

Fly home

Your trip ends today and you transfer to the airport and fly home. (B)

Walk the Lycian Way

Turkey's most famous long distance footpath begins in Feithye and covers 500m to end in Antalya. This trip follows the Antalya end of the walk as far South as Cape Gelidonia, with its distinctive lighthouse. It is the highest and most rugged section of the trail and offers you great views as it snakes along the coastline passing ancient ruins and relics as you go. Discover quiet farming villages and a way of life unchanged for centuries.

 

Mt Olympos and ancient sites

The limestone peaks of Mt Olympos reach 2388m, climbing this peak is a real highlight in this trip. Your efforts are rewarded by great views along the coastline that you have walked, and will later walk. In a visit to the ruins of the once great Lycian city of Olympos, you can still see a well preserved mosaic floor in one of the houses. There are small ruins of this great civilisation to be discovered all along this coastline which remind you of a once glorious past.

Stunning coastline

This trip affords the amazing oppurtunity to swim and relax on the stunning coastline of Turkey. The long sandy beach of Cirali is a highlight where you can also have dinner of the evening.
