Great Wall & Roof of the World

The Great Wall of China is a magnificent feat of engineering and makes an awe-inspiring start to this trip. One of the world's greatest train journeys then takes you through mountains and across plateaus to the mystical city of Lhasa. In Lhasa discover the famous Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple and holy Barkhor Square with Tibet’s largest bazaar.

Across the Tibetan Plateau

Continuing overland to Samye you visit the oldest monastery in Tibet. Onwards over the Kamba pass to Gyantse to see the frescoes of Kumbum Stupa, then at Shigatse you visit the impressive Tashilhunpo Monastery. Finally in Kathmandu you can reflect on your adventure and explore the bazaars and temples of this fascinating medieval city.

Everest Base Camp

No doubt a major highlight on this trip, from your base in Rongphu at 5000m it's just a short 2 hour return hike to Everest Base Camp. The views of this mythical mountain that in Nepal is called ‘Sagarmatha’ meaning ‘goddess of the sky’ and in Tibet ‘Qomolangma’ meaning ‘mother goddess of the universe’, are truly inspirational. You will probably enjoy it so much you will want to return again the next morning for another look!
