A fantastic extended journey through South East Asia, travelling by boat, plane, train, and bus. Laos and Cambodia are visited in turn, and the differences between these neighbouring countries will unfold as you explore the towns, villages and National Parks. In Laos, you spend time exploring the capital of Vientiane before going into the south of the country to have an encounter with the local tribespeople, and discover the beauty of the countryside. Heading into Cambodia, your final stop is the extraordinary comples at Angkor.

Angkor Wat

An undoubted highlight on this itinerary is the Angkor temple complex in Cambodia. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the 400sq.km includes temples and buildings constructed from the 9th to 15th Centuries. The carved faces and spires, some still held in the grip of jungle tree roots, create a heady atmosphere, and one of the best times to visit is as the warm light of a tropical sunset washes over the ancient stones.

Vientiane & Luang Prabang

The two most famous cities in Laos are home to majestic temples and are some of the most laid back cities in the world. Luang Prabang, often claimed to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world, is a small city, but with a wealth of majestic temples that will catch the eye. Vientiane, Laos' capital, is covered with temples, colonial buildings and is a great place to spend some time wandering.

Bolaven Plateau

This is an area of picturesque coffee plantations and home to a wide variety of ethnic groups with diverse cultures and beliefs. Palm-thatched houses dot the landscape and buffaloes graze next to small vegetable plots, providing ample photo opportunities. Take time here to explore local villages for an insight into tribal culture - many Alak and Katu tribespeople inhabit this region, and fascinating customs such as facial tattoos and buffalo sacrifice are still practised here. There are also many beautiful waterfalls nearby, such as Tat Fan, and plenty of wildlife such as hornbills, monkeys and butterflies may be seen in the thick forests surrounding these cascading waters.
