Trip Overview:

This land-based family holiday combines a journey into the Amazon with island-hopping around the Galapagos. Explore the cobbled streets of colonial Quito and the indian market at Otavalo, spend some time in the rainforest and marvel at the wildlife of the 'Enchanted Islands'.

The Galápagos are not for the run-of-the-mill traveller, but for the lover of ocean, wilderness and wildlife. The haunting beauty of these barren volcanic islands and the extraordinary tameness of their animal population create a uniquely memorable experience. This itinerary makes it possible to see the best the Galápagos has to offer whilst also giving a flavour of mainland Ecuador and a chance to experience the Amazon. Starting with the capital, Quito, you have time to explore the colonial heart of the city and visit the Equator before setting off to explore the local villages and the famous Otavalo Market.  From here you venture into the Amazon to experience the rainforest. Then you head far out into the Pacific, to the central and southern islands of the archipelago where Charles Darwin assembled the evidence for his ground breaking Theory of Evolution. This intriguing journey is simply unmissable for anyone with an interest in natural history.

The Galapagos

In the Galapagos, you enter a natural world where the local residents are not shy. You'll stay on the islands themselves, providing great opportunities to hike among the volcanoes or enjoy the stunning unexplored beaches. Boobies look up as you walk past their nests and sea lions actively seek you out as you snorkel. It's a great, fun world for the kids to explore.

The Amazon

This trip combines two of the most untamed places on earth: wild jungle and remote islands. The Amazon seems to be an endless green and silent world, but it is rich in wildlife and you will have fun trying to spot the animals.

Otavalo Market

Travel north to the indigenous village of Otavalo to experience the sights and smells of an authentic Andean market. Admire the great scenery of the Sierra and enjoy walking along the shores of Lake Cuicocha.

Quito

Quito is one of the best-preserved colonial cities in the whole of Latin America. It has a delightful mix of narrow cobbled streets and fine colonial architecture for you to explore.
