Trip Overview: 

Tokyo is a whirlwind of colour, razzmatazz and life, but scratching the surface transports you into a world of cultural mystery and intrigue. You'll get a real flavour of the orient visiting city markets, before heading to Hakone to explore the area's famous sulphur pools. You'll take the Bullet Train to Tsumago, nestled amidst the the Japanese alps. Here you'll hike along forested trails before speeding through the countryside to Hiroshima. Kyoto is full of shrines, temples and gardens and is surrounded by tranquil waters. One of the most famous sights is the golden folds of the Kinkaku-ji Temple. Heading into the hills to Mt. Koya, you'll be treated to a unique experience. Staying with monks, you'll enjoy traditional food and learn about ancient culture at a special morning prayer ceremony - surely helping to solve the mystery of Japan's enigmatic appeal! In the spring there is an explosion of colour and festivities with the arrival of the cherry blossoms. Cherry blossom viewing and celebrations have been a custom in Japan since the 7th century when the aristocrats cultivated cherry blossom gardens. Departures in March provide the chance to see this natural wonder.
