Trip Overview:

Peru has an amazing amount to offer: Soaring snow-capped mountains, strange and marvellous civilisations, spectacular lakes and a rich history. This trip gives you everything: Discover brightly painted and flower-filled colonial patios as you head up into the high mountains. Then there is the azure Lake Titicaca and the chance to spend the night with a local family. Next it’s off to Cusco and the Sacred Valley - the heart of the Inca world - before striking out on the world-famous Inca Trail. This stunning trek, filled with ruins and sweeping mountain views is the highlight for most people, but just when you thought it couldn’t get any better you arrive at Machu Picchu – the breathtaking ‘lost city’ of the Incas.

Trek to Machu Picchu

After plenty of time to explore the Sacred Valley you’ll begin an unforgettable trek along the Inca Trail. With the assistance of porters, you set off through fantastic mountain scenery, stopping at the various Inca ruins along the way. Finally arriving at the Sun Gate you’ll be rewarded with your first view of Machu Picchu itself – the ‘crows nest’ site of an amazing lost Inca citadel.

Inti Raymi

Now the second largest festival in South America, Inti Raymi is a modern enactment of an ancient Inca ritual, taking place at the winter solstice to honour the Sun God and pray for the return of longer days.

There is a whole week of activities and celebration in the streets of Cusco culminating with a procession and ceremonial display at Sacsayhuaman on the outskirts of the city. The main display takes place on the 24th of June, however, the real fun is found in the streets on the days leading up to this. Tickets can be arranged for the display locally (not included) but all marked dates will experience the festivities in Cusco in the days leading up to the 24th.
