Elephants & Spice

Big game, comfortable lodges, stunning Indian Ocean beaches and the true African bush - this trip gives you the best of all worlds. After exploring the historical coastal town of Bagamoyo and making friends with the children of Kerege orphanage, you'll get straight into the African wilderness of the coastal Saadani National Park where you will meet the elephants collaring team, learn about the elephant / farmers conflict issue, and play an essential role to build awareness. A short walk brings you to the beach, head the other way and you are in the wilds. The lodge you stay at is the centre for wildlife research for Saadani. The Mikumi National Park offers fantastic opportunities for spotting elephant, buffalo and large herds of antelope. Together these two nature sanctuaries gives you the chance to see a wide range of African game. Then you will have time to relax on the exotic spice island of Zanzibar. Stone Town is a colourful mix of Africa and arabic influences. The turquoise waters and coral reefs provide the perfect place to chill out and unwind.

Saadani National Park: Game & elephant conservation
It’s certainly hard to beat the excitement of a walking safari, spot eland, zebra, giraffe and more. A relaxing river boat trip will allow a glimpse of hippos and crocodiles. But the real highlight of Saadani is to get close to the elephant conservation project, meet the collaring team, and make your part through games and data collecting and role plays. Learn, play and support! If you travel during July and September you may even be lucky enough to witness the green turtle hatching on the beach before to race to the ocean!
Mikumi National Park & Zanzibar beaches
From your comfortable lodge in Mikumi National Park, take a game drive searching for elephant, buffalo, wildebeest, impala and other antelopes. Keep your eyes peeled for predators - lions and leopards will not be far away. This exotic 'Spice Island' is located a short distance off the coast of Tanzania. Explore the atmospheric faded splendour of Stone Town walking through its winding streets.
