Reviews
Don't take our word for it - read through our customer reviews. All of these have been published without any editing.Everything was excellent we had a really good, memorable holiday, the tour guides were fantastic and we made some good friends
Jason Pollard, October 2009
We had a lovely week and all absolutely loved Croatia, the scenery, friendliness of the local people and food were superb.
The holiday activities were very poor, we went with 3 teenage boys and were hoping for thrills & possibly a little danger to keep them happy and busy - the activities were very tame & seemed to spend our whole time paddling at a very slow pace. The white water rafting day was good & we all enjoyed it immensely but we have also rafted in the French Alps and that was by far superior to the Cetina River. We've also mountain biked in the Alps and the boys were hoping for off road and excitement but it was 15k cycling around villages on the road.
If you're looking for adventure then i would definitely not recommend this holiday - but if you want lovely countryside and an organised low key event, usually followed by a fantastic lunch, each day then this holiday is ideal
We had an excellent holiday overall, mainly because of the other families - all had teenage children, so the kids were all happy together - if we had been with families of children aged 8-12, then the holiday would have been a disaster.
Oh and having the final day off as a relaxing day, is a bit of a joke - there is absolutely nothing to do in Trilj & unless Damir our guide had organised for us to go to Split i don't know what we would've done
Damir, was excellent - he looked after us and showed the kids the perfect places to go swimming and jump into the water. He's a local guy and his knowledge and the info he had to tell us on places was fantastic. He got all the kids hiking up a hill to look at a church, don't know how he did it but he did (no way would mine have hiked up a hill if we'd asked them) & they all enjoyed it as he found local insects & interesting gravestones for them
Nothing was too much trouble, a real asset to Adventure Company
Damir our guide was excellent, made our holiday run smoothly and without hitch
We did the Croatian River Adventure which overall we were very disappointed with - the level of excitement in the activities was very poor. Didn't spoil our holiday as our kids made friends with the kids there but if they hadn't this would have been a disastrous holiday. Put more exciting activities into this please
The last day was a free day, there is absolutely nothing to do in Trilj unless organised which thankfully our host Damir did, he didn't have his day off and took us all into Split, which it appears he does every week. Worth scheduling in another activity as the kids would rather have done that than spend a day in a city
Hotel basic but clean and comfortable. Staff very helpful - the only recommendation i could give would be to have some outside seating by the river as nowhere to sit outside in the sun in the late afternoon, early evening
Excellent

***** Comment from The Adventure Company ******
While customers have previously told us the activity level was right for this trip, this year the rating does seem to be dropping. We are reviewing customer feedback on this – if customers are looking for something more exhilarating, we can change the activities to provide this. The only consideration beyond this is the minimum age for the trip. It is currently 8 years old so we do need to make sure that what we offer accommodates all age ranges and abilities as best as we can.
The variety of activities. The excellent local guide and his commitment to our group. Doing activities that were challenging -but we were able to achieve them.
[Least enjoyed] The last day of activities - when we were canoeing on the Cetina river back to the hotel. This was perfectly pleasant but as we had built up our experience by then we would have preferred to do something more challenging such as kayaking in white water or mini-rafting (which another group staying at the same hotel did)
Apart from that the itinerary was fabulous - and we really enjoyed our optional day out in Split. We had one day of bicycling. I am not an expert but the bicycles were not very well maintained and 10 minutes per bike before we started would have made for an easier day.
The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I would have liked a little more variety in the food offered - and in particular more fruit. The hotel rooms were quite varied - we had lots of tables but no chairs - but it didn't really matter. There was air conditioning in the rooms but ours did not work very well.
Demir was fabulous

our guide Damir, was excellent. The pace was good for kids, lots of breaks to swim so the actual exercise/activity wasn't too difficult or tiring for the younger kids
[Least enjoyed] The coach travel to get to the locations - would have liked shorter journeys. The hotel was quite basic, our bathroom was awful, the shower curtain didn't fit so the water went everywhere so had to use all the towels to mop up the water as bathroom flooded. I did ask for it to be fixed but it wasn't. Also asked for extra towels so that we had towels for us rather than the floor, but didn't get any. The staff were all lovely and helpful though, but the bathroom was just particularly awful!
One day less paddling (eg canoeing or kayaking) would be better. 3 days was a bit too much.
[Accommodation] see previous comments. The website said there was a pool table which would have kept the children occupied and out of the way of the other guests, but the hotel said that they took it away as it wasn't used.
He was very patient with the children, even when they were very annoying!! Very helpful, knowledgeable, calm. A really lovely guy.

The people, the place the activities, the hotel staff were lovely but hotel room had no air conditioning.
Loved it, kids lovedit, we all want to do more !
[Least enjoyed] The wedding downstairs on the first night, had to sleep on kids floor! and the rave in the village the night we left, again no sleep.
[Accommodation] fantastic staff very helpful

White water rafting was great fun. The raft skipper made a real effort to keep the boat laughing. Swimming in the rivers and sea. Brela was beautiful - could have stayed here longer... The children loved jumping off rocks and small cliffs into the rivers and sea! River kayaking was lovely and it was great to have some shade from the river bank trees. It was a great treat to have a super locally prepared roast veal lunch in a beautiful riverside setting - could have stayed here longer, lingering over a late lunch..... Our kids really enjoyed all the activities and meeting new people and making new friends. We had a great family bunch who got along really well. Our activity guide, was extremely friendly and helpful. his local knowledge and history was tremendous and he was very professional in the way he managed the group at all times. Hotel receptionist, Maria was also charming and very helpful.
[Least enjoyed] On the cycle ride day, there were some shortcomings in the mechanical standards of some of the bicycles. e.g. brakes not fully effective, gear mechanism issues. We felt that all the bikes should have been maintained to a higher standard. Very busy departure lounge and long checking in queues at Split airport on the way home.
[Comments on itinerary] It was a very hot week, with temperatures daily of 35 degrees celcius, which apparently is not typical even in August. The holiday would have been perfect in less hot conditions which may be around whitsun bank holiday week. Our guide said this would be good also, as the water levels would be higher & better for the activities. I don't think the holiday was avialble at that time of year?
A fabulous holiday! We laughed and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on all the activities. The Dalmatian countryside is very beautiful and we would love to go back to Croatia again. Without a doubt we were very fortunate to gel very well together as a group of families and were expertly orgainised, assisted and informed by our activity lead, Damir (probbly not spelt right!)
Friendly, happy and well mannered, very well presented, excellent historical knowledge and professional at all times.

Excellent outdoor activities, perfect local guide, good balance between group activities and own time
[Least enjoyed] hotel location. location in village was less suitable for children, there was not so much to do for them and not really a good swimming location
Brilliant guy, excellent eye for safety, intelligent, caring and very quick in organizing extras

This is not a trip loaded with inspirational moments. Its just a nice well balanced activity week.
Inga was good and made sure everything happened when it was supposed to have. She was also low key, allowing the holiday makers to drive the pace - I regard that as the sign of an quality tour leader.
Nevel led a couple of trips. He was exceptional with the kids. A real asset.
