Ouarzazate

Ouarzazate

After your flight, you transfer to your first night’s accommodation and check in. Standing at the confluence of three valleys and on the threshold of the Sahara Desert, the town of Ouarzazate was originally a staging point for trans-Saharan caravans but was expanded during the colonial era as a garrison for the French Foreign Legion.

Tamsahalte; mountain biking

Tamsahalte; mountain biking

After a trip briefing with your Group Leader in the hotel reception at 08:00, you set off towards Agdz in the Draa Valley. In Tamnougalte you will get on mountain bikes for a scenic ride through this beautiful valley. You will cover about 30 kilometres in the saddle, riding along the southern slopes of Jebel Sahro. The terrain you cross varies along the ride, aht stunning mountain views along the way will make this a memorable journey. You reunite with the vehicle and drive the remaining distance to Tamsahalte. Tonight you soak up the Atlas Mountains atmosphere as you stay in a Kasbah style hotel, which is built in the traditional mud brick architecture. (driving time about 2 1/2 hrs / 140 km)

Riad du Sud (AAA) - 1 night (B)

Day

Sahara desert; Bedouin camp

Sahara desert; Bedouin camp

This morning you drive to Merzouga (approx. 3 hours / 188 km), where you meet the team for the overnight camel trek. You mount your "ship of the desert" and set off riding into the Sahara desert. Riding a camel is an interesting experience, although their reputation as unfriendly beasts is unfounded, as camels make for friendly transport! Crossing the sand dunes perched on the back of your camel gives you a real feel for the vastness of the landscape, as it disappears in the distance. You arrive at the camp in time for you to go for a wander and climb a dune for spectacular views. A night in Nomad style tents gives you an impression of the traditional lifestyle of the nomads of Morocco.

Desert Camp in Nomad tents (C) - 1 night (BD)

Tinerhir; Todra Gorge

Rise early for the chance to view a spectacular sunrise over the desert dunes. After breakfast we drive into the Atlas Mountain territory and make your way to Tinerhir, a huge arid subtropical oasis stretching about 30 km long and varies in width from a few kilometres upstream and 4 km downstream and wedged in between two mountain ranges. This afternoon we make the short drive to the famous and spectacular Todra Gorge situated on the eastern side of the Atlas for an easy hike.  Local people live in the area and can be seen with their small donkeys, or herding camels.

Drive to El Kelaa Mgouna and overnight in a traditional Moroccan Kasbah. El Kelaa is well known for the making of “eau of roses”, a perfume obtained from the distillation of petals of roses which grown abundantly in the area.

Imi n'Ifri

Drive from El Mgouna to Tizi n'Fedhrate with a stunning and extremely scenic drive along the way (approx 5hrs).  From here we drive along Tessaout Valley through some spectacular scenery to Imi n'Ifri where we see the natural bridge.  The bridge is unusual in that it spans the Oued Imi N'Ifri River but also there is a small stream that flows along the top of the bridge then cascades down the cliff west of the bridge, 132 ft in height. Overnight in a riad accommodation.

Riad Aghbalou (AAA) - 1 night (BD)

The area is filled with green valleys, mills, and orchards, and fed from the very life force of the waterfalls. You have time at leisure to explore and the possibility to see monkey's which have been known to swing from the high surrounding trees.

White-water rafting; Marrakech

White-water rafting; Marrakech

Today is action-packed as we leave dry land and board our rafts to experience Morocco from a fresh water river. To begin with we under-go a full breakdown of river rafting instructions and training before heading out to explore the region from the comfort of rafts (approx 3hrs), included is a hard-earned picnic lunch. Today is a great way to absorb the amazing scenery and enjoy the tranquillity of the area before making our way to the bustling city of Marrakech (approx 4hrs).

Arriving in the afternoon there is free time to explore the souqs and delight in the sounds, aromas, and sights of the main square - Djemaa el-Fna.  This area comes alive in the evening with snake charmers, acrobats, Tagine cooking and drum beats.

Please note the rafting is seasonal and weather dependant.  The river is open between the months of March to June. Outside of these months the itinerary is amended to kayak inside the Ourika Valley and rafting will not be available due to river levels. In this case you transfer in the morning to the Ourika Valley for your safety briefing and the start of your kayaking adventure.  Finish with a hearty picnic lunch before transferring back to Marrakech for free time to explore before flying out the following day.
