Trip Overview:

Discovering the temples of Angkor Wat is an impressive experience which is hard to beat in all of South East Asia. Visiting genocide museums in Phnom Penh is a sobering reminder of tragic events, in not such distant years, when this country was taken over by the unforgiving, firm hand of the Khymer Rouge. Exploring villages by bike and on foot you discover an industrious and enterprising nation who are as curious about you as you are they. Sample some interesting delicacies from the local cuisine along your way. Then complete your adventure with some paradise beaches and relaxation.

Fascinating History

No visit to Cambodia would be complete without a visit to Angkor Wat. This great complex of temples is the finest in all South East Asia. The temples were built in symetry and balance to represent the celestial world, you have several days to explore them well. In Phnom Penh you learn about a darker, not so distant, history including torture and genocide during the Khymer Rouge reign. The National Museum gives insight into more glorious times.

Villages & Cuisine

Exploring local villages by bike you will discover people engaged in a range of local industries from growing tobacco or seasame, to fishing. Cambodia has a unique cuisine and you can take a cookery class to learn how to make some local dishes for yourself. As you travel there are many local delicacies to try from crunchy crickets or deep fried spider, to the uniquely foul smelling, but exotic tasting durian fruit. Try some tasty street food in the local markets. Where ever you are in Cambodia you will receive a warm and welcoming smile.

Sihanoukville

Finally in the south you have time to relax and enjoy some tropical beach paradise moments at Sihanoukville with its lush rainforests running into isolated white sandy beaches which slope into the Gulf of Thailand.
