Trip guide

Essential information regarding your trip, including map, itinerary & what to pack

Itinerary options

Main Description

The coastal town of Kas has developed a reputation as one of Turkey’s best spots for action and adventure. During your week here there’s plenty of time to make the most of the many activities available. You can take part in a sea kayaking trip to visit a sunken city, explore inland by mountain bike or try SCUBA diving in crystal clear waters – with options for both novices and experienced divers. Of course, there’s always the option to simply relax on one of the fine beaches along the coast. After a couple of days in Kas you’ll board your gulet, a traditional wooden sailing boat, for two nights cruising on the Aegean Sea. Your meals are cooked for you by the friendly crew and there’s no pressure to do anything other than lay back and relax. However there’s plenty of time for swimming in quiet bays along the way.
The water is clear and warm with fantastic visibility – great for snorkelling. This trip has been specially designed with teenagers in mind – so there’s plenty of time available for both active adventure and laid-back relaxation!

Adventure Level

The itinerary on this trip has been specifically designed with the needs of teenagers in mind. It features more adventurous activities that are only suitable for older children and adults. As with our other Family Adventures, under 18’s must be accompanied by at least one adult. You may also like to have a look at our other Family Adventures which have ‘Teenage Departures’ – dates set aside for families with older children. Minimum age: 12 years.

Anyone in good health who enjoys being active should be able to take part in this trip. It can be hot and humid in Turkey, especially in the summer months and so active pursuits will feel more tiring. An ability to swim is essential.

Although it is our intention to operate the itinerary as printed in the brochure and detailed below, it may be necessary to make some changes as a result of alterations to flight schedules, climatic conditions, limitations of infrastructure or other operational factors. As a consequence, the order or location of overnight stops may vary from those outlined. Included meals are indicated in the daily itinerary i.e. BLD = Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

The decision to partake in any activity not listed as an optional activity is entirely at your own discretion and risk. If you do have any complaint about or problem with, any such optional activity your claim should be directed to the activity provider and not to The Adventure Company.

Accommodation

Accommodation Ratings

We use a variety of accommodation around the world. Wherever possible we try to ensure that this is in keeping with the itinerary and the region that you are visiting. To give you a feel for the standard, we have provided accommodation gradings for each night. However please bear in mind that these are intended as a guide and are not based on 'star' ratings, so there will be variations within each grade:

AA -  Hotels, lodges or guesthouses, usually with en suite facilities. These are generally simple hotels with adequate amenities. Whilst comfort levels are perfectly acceptable. Generally no added facilities

Rooming in Hotels

When arranging rooming for our trips, we try to meet the needs of all families. As families come in all sizes, we do not offer a set formula regarding rooming arrangements, and we ask you to be as flexible as possible. Our trips are based on a twin share basis, but we try to accommodate families in triple or family rooms if available. Full details of our rooming procedure can be found here. Very occasionally rooming is in communal or dorm-style rooms where you'll share with other families. Where relevant this is indicated in the itinerary.

Some or all of the excursions detailed below may be available. Approximate costs are given for guidance only and may depend on the number of participants. Packing List

Below is a suggestion of what you might find useful to take on this trip. It is not an exhaustive packing list. If you need further advice, please call us or consult your nearest specialist outdoor clothing and equipment store.

  • Comfortable lightweight clothing
  • Windproof/ waterproof outer shell (i.e. lightweight jacket/kagoul)
  • Trainers/trekking-style sandals for relaxing and kayaking / rafting
  • Sun-hat
  • Swimsuit
  • Water bottle
  • Sunglasses, high-factor sunscreen and lipsalve
  • Personal first aid kit and insect repellent
  • A laundry service may be available, but we recommend you take biodegradable travel detergent so you can wash clothes as you choose.

Baggage

For your comfort we recommend you travel as light as possible; many airlines impose a maximum weight limit of 20kg – we advise you to take 10kg as you will be on the move a good deal! For domestic flights using light aircraft the usual weight limit is 15 kg.
One main piece (a soft bag or rucksack, not a hard suitcase).
A daypack (25-30 litres), large enough to carry what you need for the day including camera, water, etc.

Responsible Travel

We stay in locally owned hotels and pensions, use resident leaders and guides and use locally owned transport; this helps distribute amongst a wide number of people the money we spend. Because our groups are small, it is easier to monitor and control the impact on the environment through the areas we travel.

Tipping

For better or worse, tipping is an accepted part of everyday life and - although it is always at your discretion - you will be expected to tip to reward service. Your Group Leader will be able to give you an indication of when and how much is appropriate. This can vary, but please calculate on the basis of £25 per person for this trip. Also, if you wish to tip your Group Leader (in recognition of their contribution towards your overall enjoyment of the holiday) a suggested guideline would be approximately £1 to £2 per person, per day.

Climate Chart

Currency - Turkey

The New Turkish Lira. There are approximately 2.3 New Turkish Lira to one British Pound (as at July 2010). Take some Turkish lira in cash if arrival is relatively late. ATM’s in Kas are convenient and accept bankcards with the Cirrus and VISA logo. Credit cards are only accepted in major hotels and expensive restaurants. You are better off taking Bank of England notes rather than Scottish notes if you want to change money in Turkey or for paying the local payment as Scottish notes are not widely accepted. Don't take travellers cheques as banks will no longer change them.
