Main Guidelines
What should I do if I have flu like symptoms or have been in contact with any one who has Swine Flu?
We would remind you that it your responsibility to ensure you are fit to travel. You should not travel unless you are fit to do so and failure to declare this condition may invalidate your travel insurance and The Adventure Company can take no responsibility for any expenses incurred as a result, It is essential that you arrange adequate travel insurance prior to leaving the UK .
If you travel with clear symptoms of swine flu you may well be refused boarding by your airline and have any claims for medical expenses abroad rejected by your insurance company.
Although there are currently no restrictions on international travel, we request that you visit the FCO website www.fco.gov.uk to obtain the latest advice.
Will my travel insurance cover me?
If you have not purchased your insurance from us you should check that your policy gives adequate cover should in the event of contracting Swine Flu either before or on the trip. Please see below for advice if you have taken The Adventure Company policy.
If my trip is cancelled due to my destination country banning tourists from the UK, what will The Adventure Company do?
Our recommendation is that you contact your insurance company initially as you may be able to make a claim. In the event of a claim being denied, we will consider your situation on a case by case basis.
If you have our insurance
What if I fall ill before I travel?
Customers, who have purchased travel insurance from The Adventure Company, and need to make a claim for cancellation due to swine flu, can do so if at the time of buying the policy they were healthy but contracted the virus before travelling and were forced to cancel the trip on medical advice (i.e. not fit to travel).
What if I fall ill on the trip?
Claims can also be made for medical expenses/curtailment where the virus was contracted/diagnosed during the trip. It should be noted that for any curtailment claim, it must have been medically necessary to return to the UK or you must have been hospitalised for the remainder of the trip.
What if I am not ill but don’t want to travel due to the risk of infection?
Unfortunately, our insurers will be unable to process any claim for cancellation or curtailment due to having a fear of contracting Swine flu and not wanting to travel.
Are there any restrictions on travel?
Whilst Swine flu has been declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organisation http://www.who.int/csr/disease/swineflu/en/index.html , it is currently continuing to recommend no restrictions on travel and no border closures.
What if the country I am going to stops all inbound travel?
Although you would not normally be covered by our insurers, they will look at any claims on a case by case basis. At the present time no country has implemented any such restrictions.
