Visit to Lucca

Lucca is a town that dates back to the Etruscans, and there is clear evidence of the Roman influence in the grid pattern of the streets. Inside the walls of the city, which are circled with gardens and huge bastions, is a well preserved Roman town. The best way to see the town is by bike, and you can take to the city walls to get a birds eye view on Lucca below you. Depending on how you are feeling you could take your bike down to the river outside the walls. This is not a great town by any means, so walking around here is perfectly possible, so why not take some time to get to know the place a bit better.

After visiting Lucca, you return to your agriturismo.

The train journey itself is part of the experience here, as the route along the rugged coastline is very photogenic, and is definitely something to be marvelled at. Cinque Terre translates as Five Lands, and is named for the five villages that make up this region. While you are here, you have a variety of activities available to you. The more adventurous among you may want to take a walk along the coast. This region is renowned for some of Italy's best walking, and the walks on the Cinque Terre are varied and diverse. Visit to Siena

Take the train to Siena today. This medieval town is among Tuscany's most beautiful, and you can get a real insight into the history and culture of the region here. The old town has been declared a UNESCO world heritage site, which will appeal to all the family. The zebra striped duomo (black and white are the colours of Siena) is unusual in comparison to other churches in this style, and the Palazzo Pubblico, with its 97 metre high bell tower covers one side of the main square.

The piazza, 'Il Campo' is a great place to wander and you will enjoy seeing the sites here. In the evening you return by train to Castelfiorentino and your agriturismo.

Podere le Fornaci farm visit

As well as staying on a working farm, today you head for a farm to learn how cheese is made. You get to meet the sheep on the farm who produce the milk for the cheese, and then follow the process of cheese making all the way from start to finish. The farm is just over an hour from your accommodation, and as you head into the Tuscan hills, you are transported to a rural haven that is very different to the towns and cities that you have visited already this week.

The delightful location is a great place to see rural farming techniques in action. After this there is time for a delicious farm lunch before you head back to the agriturismo for the afternoon.
