Day
1

Nairobi

Arrive in Nairobi Kenya's busy capital city and make your way to your hotel. Hotel - 1 night

Day
2/3
Samburu National Reserve

Samburu National Reserve

Your safari begins as you drive to Samburu National Reserve (approx 8 hours) through hilly countryside and past the slopes of Mt Kenya, Africa's second highest mountain. The region is home to many traditional nomadic tribes, during the drive today you will see the Samburu tribes people with their bright dress and vibrant accessories. The Samburu reserve is little touched by tourism and remains a pristine wilderness, you spend two nights here. The muddy waters of the Ewasao Ngiro River which snake through this otherwise dry landscape are home to giant crocodiles. Keep you eyes out for the endangered Grevy's zebras and graceful gerenuks. Camping with facilities 2nts (BLD)

Day
4
Lake Nakuru

Lake Nakuru

Today you travel through the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park (approx 8-9 hours) stopping for lunch in a local homestead. This park was established in 1960 to protect flamingos and many other bird species in the surrounding area. The soda-rich waters here support a huge flamingo population. The sight of these magnificent birds congregating in large numbers is a huge thrill. There’s also a lot of wildlife to see on the salty mudflats and wooded hills around Lake Nakuru you take an evening game drive along the lake shore. Camping with facilities 1 nt (BLD)

Day
5
Lake Naivasha

Lake Naivasha

A morning game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park - look out for black or white rhinos, leopards, and buffaloes and many types of bird. After you travel to Naivash (approx 2 hours) and explore the market where there are many different types of food and products for sale, and some interesting people to encounter. Another 30 min drive and you arrive at camp. Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake in the Rift Valley, with floating islands of papyrus reeds bordered by acacia trees. A good population of hippos and great variety of birds can be viewed here. The campsite is basic with showers and flush toilets. Camping with facilities 1 nt (BLD)

Day
6
Masai Mara

Masai Mara

Heading south across the floor of the Rift Valley leads to the Masai Mara - (around 6-7 hours). The Masai Mara is effectively a northern extension of the Serengeti, the most famous of neighbouring Tanzania's national parks, which lies just across the border. Animals of course recognise no border and immense herds of blue wildebeest migrate across the savannah, driven by the innate urge to find new grazing land. They arrive here each July/August before they start to head south again in October. At these times the plains teem with animals on the move and the photographic opportunities are unrivalled. Camping with facilities - 2 nights (BLD)

Day
7
Masai Mara

Masai Mara

You’ll spend a full day exploring the extensive grassy plains where elephant, buffalo, zebra, giraffe and various gazelles spend their days grazing. Predatory lion, cheetah, jackal, hyena and perhaps even wild dog are more elusive but still often seen. You take lunch/brunch by the Mara River - a great chance to spot crocodiles and hippo. Chance for an optional balloon ride today. (BLD)

Day
8

Tour ends

Re-cross the plains of the Mara and climb the Rift Valley’s eastern wall past Mount Suswa to make your way back to Nairobi (300km, approx. 6-7 hours drive). Once back in Nairobi the trip ends for Land Only clients. (B)

Please note - It is necessary to leave the Masai Mara in the morning in order to get to Nairobi in daylight, as travelling after dark is not allowed.
