Fly to Zanzibar
Flight to Zanzibar

Saadani National Park
Arriving in Zanzibar you will board a small plane for a scenic flight to Saadani (20min) and transfer straight to your first night’s accommodation. Your destination is Saadani National Park a wonderful game reserve, runnign into the Indian Ocean. Here you'll be able to relax on the beach or go for a wildlife walk.
Fixed bandas (AAAA) Beautiful thatched huts on stilts with en suite facilities - 5 nights (L,D)

Saadani NP - Game Drive & Boat Safari
After a leisurely start to the morning you’ll board a boat for a stunning safari trip along the Wami River. You motor slowly up-river past a wonderful array of wildlife including kingfishers, monkeys, hippos and crocodiles. After anchoring you will enjoy a packed lunch and then silently drift back down-river before retuning back to your vehicle.
The open-topped Land Rover (the all-purpose workhorse of these parts) will take you on your way back to the lodges you'll be spotting a variety of wildlife including the elusive oryx, sable and kudu, along with elephant, wildebeest, buffalo, zebra and some of the largest herds of giraffe found in Africa.

Saadani NP - Elephant Conservation Project & Game Drive
In the morning you’ll go out on a game drive in Saadani. But this is a safari with a difference - you’ll be assigned a specific elephant to track and fill in a questionnaire on their movements. You’ll be using tracking skills taught to you by your Group Leader and follow a GPS device. In and around the park you’ll pass herds of elephant, along with buffalo, lion, leopard, giraffe, zebra and many types of antelope.
Returning to camp you’ll provide updates to the research team and then after lunch you’ll get a briefing about elephants and the elephant conservation project, getting the opportunity to find out how the data you collected in the morning is used. This gives children a wonderful firsthand insight into conservation work.

Saadani NP - Turtle Conservation Project & Canoeing
In the morning you’ll go for a relaxing canoe along the stunning Mafui Creek. Following a well deserved lunch you’ll head down the beach to learn about the Green Turtle Conservation Project in Madete Marine Park. During the peak season, July to September, you will get a 50% chance of witnessing turtles hatching. If so, you might be required to assist with turtles reaching the sea if our experts feel they need assistance. This is a sensitive topic that is monitored strictly. In the event that families miss an actual hatching, they will still get to visit the breeding beach and be shown the nest and signs of turtle activity.
Then you have a real thrill of driving out to the Saadani Tower for fantastic wildlife spotting at night on the animal-filled salt flats. Following the sundowner drinks watching wildlife from the tower you’ll then enjoy another fabulous dinner.

Saadani National Park - Game Viewing
Today will be different again. In the early morning you’ll go for a walking safari across the salt flats, using your new found tracking skills to indentify the different animal prints left behind from the night before. Back at the tower again you can then sit back and watch the wildlife. Returning back to base for lunch you’ve the rest of day to yourselves. You can stay at the lodge, have a wander on the beach, or go on a walking safari which might reveal a stunning array of bird life, including coucal, lovebird, rollers and sunbird, as well as offering close encounters.

Zanzibar - Stone Town
Today you take a short 15 minute flight by light aircraft to Zanzibar. You will then transfer to your hotel in the island’s capital, Stone Town.
As a result of its trade in slaves and spices Stone Town was for many years the most important town on the East African coast. You can relax in the hotel or venture out and explore the winding streets and bustling old markets. Please note that the Zanzibar section is unaccompanied by your Group Leader although transfers are organised for you. There are plenty of optional activities which can be booked if you wish, including a diving trip and spice tour.
Hotel (AAA) – 2 nights (Swimming pool) (B)

Zanzibar - Stone Town
This is your last full day. Again, you can sit back and relax by the pool in the hotel or explore the atmospheric, faded splendour of Stone Town. As you wander through the narrow, whitewashed streets, watch out for the bustling old fish market, the vibrant colours of the stalls in the fruit market, and the evocative mix of veiled women and men in white pillar-box hats.
If you are looking for a day chilling out on the stunning, unspoilt white sandy beaches then Nungwi and Kendwa are an hours taxi drive to the north of the island and well worth it.

Fly home
The trip ends for Land Only clients. Those on group flights to the UK transfer from your hotel to the airport in the afternoon so you'll have time to enjoy laidedback Stone Town before your overnight flight home via Addis Ababa.
