Las Vegas to Zion NP

Las Vegas to Zion NP

You'll meet the group and your group leader in the morning and set off for Zion National Park (170 miles/approx. 3 hrs). This is a unique landscape of reddish and tan coloured Navajo sandstone. Zion National Park covers 229 square miles with Zion Canyon being 15 miles long and up to half a mile deep. A number of unusual plants and animals can be found in the park, making it a great place to explore on foot.  Pioneer Lodge (AAA) - 2 nights - Swimming Pool

Day

Zion NP

Zion NP

Today you'll have time to visit the national park and various walks and hikes are available. Your leader will suggest a route based on the collective wishes and ability of the group but if you prefer to explore indepently, there are many marked trails which are safe to explore.  Among the options are the moderate walk to Emerald Pools (3 miles) or the more strenuous hike to Angels Landing (5.5 miles).

Day
4
Bryce NP

Bryce NP

This morning it is a fairly short drive over to Bryce National Park (90 miles/approx. 2.5 hours). Bryce Canyon is a fascinating landscape of thin spires of pink and orange stone. The Navajo Loop trail enables you to hike right in amongst these unique formations. Or perhaps you would prefer to remain on the rim, photographing the change of colours and shadows as the sun moves across the sky. Here you can choose from several hikes of various difficulties. Queen's garden is an easy 1.8 mile trail whilst the Navajo trail is longer (3 miles) and graded moderate. For a more challenging hike, the peek-a-boo loop offers a chance to get more remote (5.5 miles). Ruby's Inn (AAA) - 1 night - Swimming Pool

Day
5/6
Moab

Moab

From Bryce to Moab is a drive of 275 miles (approx. 5 hours) so there will plenty of comfort stops and places to stretch your legs if needed. This is beautiful country and being on the road is a great feeling. In the afternoon, when you've arrived at Moab you'll take a hike out to Delicate Arch for great views of the surrounding landscape. Because of its shape, Delicate Arch has been known as ‘The Chaps’ and ‘Schoolma’ams Bloomers’ to the local cowboys in the past.

The following day is free for you to explore the area. A favourite activity is the renowned mountain biking on the 'slick rock'. The terrain is perfect for off road biking and a real adrenaline rush. Otherwise hikes into nearby Canyonlands NP can be arranged. Greenwell Inn (AAA) - 2 nights

Day
7
Colorado River; Rafting

Colorado River; Rafting

It's a short drive to the river ramp where you put in for your rafting experience on the Colorado River, which flows for over 1450 miles from the Rockies to the Gulf of California. During this time the river falls 3110 feet from the mountains to the coast. The day will consist of 6-8 hours on the water and rapids are, at times, up to grade 3-4. In all you will travel 100 miles down river to Hite Marina at Lake Powell, through spectacular, rugged scenery of cliffs and canyons.

This is a great chance to get into the wilderness, to bond and make friends for life. You'll be sure to escape from the pace of everyday life as you take in the wonderful views. Camping - 1 night - (BLD)
