Arrive in Oulanka
Fly to Kuusamo, where you transfer to your accommodation in Oulanka National Park. As you are inside the Arctic Circle, the weather here can reach as low as -30 degrees, although you will be provided with full winter clothing to keep you warm! Your accommodation at Oulanka is a superb base in a wilderness location, with excellent facilities. Alongside the spacious rooms there is a cosy restaurant and bar, which includes a log fire, sauna and outdoor hot tub, an ideal place to base yourself for your week in Finland.
Basecamp Oulanka - Wilderness Camp (AA) - 7 nights (D)
Our 'wilderness camp' is a lovely complex of wooden buildings providing comfortable and cosy accommodation in a stunning location overlooking a lake and backing on to the Oulanka National Park. All rooms are moderately-sized family rooms comprising a bathroom, twin beds for the adults and a mezzanine floor for up to two children.

Half-day husky safari.
Free morning to try sledging around the areas of Basecamp, or enjoy a game of football or hockey in the deep snow. All games equipment are available free of charge from the front desk. After lunch, you head off for the husky safari. You start with an explanation about the huskies and instruction on how to drive the sleds. You then take a 10km tour driving our own sled and dog-team. Adults drive, with children sitting in the sled. (BD)

Oulanka; Snowshoeing
Gentle half-day snowshoe walk in the Oulanka National Park past frozen waterfalls and following the Kitkajoki River. The afternoon is free for further snowshoeing or you could just relax in the sauna and hot tub. (BD)

Cross Country Skiing
This morning you will take a cross country skiing lesson. Free use of skis after the lesson. Heading down to the nearby Juuma lake, our instructor will literally walk us through the basics of how to cross-country ski. There may be a few tumbles to start with, but in the soft snow this is half the fun. After becoming more confident on the skis we then head out onto the lake, gliding through the virgin powder. (BD)

Explore Ruka
Spend the day at the popular ski resort of Ruka. Your guide will organise transfers (included) and book activities for you. There are a variety of activities available to you such as Downhill skiing and snowmobile safaris at an additional cost, please contact us for details. (BD)

Snow games and Igloo building
The morning is free to get up leisurely and relax. Afternoon is spent in the children’s snow park which is supervised by Basecamp guides. Follow the ‘snow trail’, which leads to a teepee where hot drinks and pancakes are served. Families can also have a go at making a snow sculpture. Late lunch back at base, and free afternoon for further snowshoeing, sauna or hot-tub. (BD)

Free day
Today is free to enjoy your surroundings or have a last try and at a winter activity. Options include unguided cross-country skiing and snowshoeing; downhill skiing at nearby Ruka (transport and skiing not included); or further dogsledding and snowmobile safaris. There is possibility for ice climbing for all ages. As a farewell celebration, you have the option of eating dinner around a campfire, or in a tepee (Kota) on the edge of the National Park. (BD)
Trip Ends; Fly home
Your trip ends today. You transfer to the airport and fly home (B)
