Former Filipino Street Child Wins International Children's Peace Prize

There aren't many 13 year olds that can boast Noble Peace Laureate, Desmond Tutu presented them with an award for the International Children's Peace Prize, but Kesz Valdez can. On September 19th, Kesz was awarded the prize for his charity Championing Community Children. A former street child used to living among the rubbish in the Philippines, Kesz has led an extraordinary life for a 13 year old.

Malaysia is home to some 29 million people, a huge majority of whom live well below the breadline on less than $15 a month. With around 76% of the world's poor living in rural areas, many have to give up their homes and head into the cities to find work.

Fuego Volcano Erupts in Guatemala

Last night Fuego Volcano finally erupted, spewing out lava and burning rocks over the lands beneath it. The lava and ash plumes started on Monday 4th September and the lava flows and explosions continue.It has been reported that the ash emissions have reached heights of 700m and the lava flows travelling betwen 900 and 1,000m long and 150m wide. Ashfall was last reported in the areas of Panimaché, Morelia, Yucales and Sangre de Cristo

A Tribute to Terry Nutkins

It was announced just hours a go that Terry Nutkins has sadly passed away at the age of 66 from cancer. Terry, a naturalist and TV presenter dedicated his life to teaching the world about wildlife through TV shows such as The Really Wild Show, Brilliant Creatures, Growing up Wild and Animal Magic. Terry fought acute leukaemia for the past nine months but succumbed to the disease at his home in Scotland yesterday.

Amputee To Take on The Kilimanjaro Challenge

Summiting Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak has always been a challenge but with only one foot most of us wouldn't make it. Stan Andrews on the other hand, a trans-tibial amputee born with a deformed right foot, is up for the challenge. Stan's right foot was amputated when he was seven years odl to prevent any further difficulties and to lower the risk of restriction.
