Table Mountain's World Wonder status confirmed

Table Mountain has been officially confirmed as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

The site had received the accreditation on a provisional basis in November 2011, following three years of voting.

An extensive international audit has now made things official, much to the delight of tourism chiefs in Cape Town.

Sabine Lehmann - chairperson of the Table Mountain official supporters committee - believes the prestigious accolade will encourage more people to take a South Africa holiday in the future.

She stated that record numbers of visitors headed for the landmark when the seven competition winners were announced last year.

"We expect the official confirmation to further boost visitor interest locally and abroad," she remarked.

Meanwhile, mayor of the cosmopolitan city Patricia de Lille said that more travellers will now want to climb Table Mountain as part of their "bucket list" and its reputation as a "must-see" destination will grow enormously.
