Peru continues to appeal to adventure tourists
Posted: 16 Feb 12
Peru's many stunning landmarks and plethora of adventure activities continue to appeal to holidaymakers.
New figures released this week (February 15th) by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics have indicated that the number of foreigners who took a Peru holiday in 2011 grew by 11 per cent when compared with the previous year, Andina reports.
The research also found that more than 272,000 people took in sights in Lima, Cusco and other parts of the country in December alone, which marked an 8.4 per cent improvement on the same month in 2012.
Chile provided the most visitors, as 47 per cent of all foreign travellers in Peru were from the neighbouring South American nation.
While Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail remain firm favourites among adventure travellers, the increasingly cosmopolitan nature of Lima is also appealing to tourists. The city now has a reputation for staging world class concerts and having a plethora of upmarket bars and top-class eateries.
