Kilimanjaro 'is a symbol of Tanzania's beauty'

People who have conquered the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro often say their achievement was a major turning point in their life.

Although it isn't the tallest peak in the world, getting to the top of the mountain is still a huge challenge and the rewards are immeasurable.

You will come across some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world during your climb and it is easy to see why so many people book Tanzania holidays each year.

Conservationists believe Kilimanjaro is the perfect place to set up a climate change centre, as it remains one of the most recognised and popular landmarks on the planet.

Speaking to Tanzania's Daily News publication, Willy Makundi of Moshi Environmental Management Consults said the facility would be the first of its kind in Africa.

"Mount Kilimanjaro is an enduring symbol of Tanzania's and Africa's natural beauty, a world environmental resource heritage, yet it is also a visible sign of the effects of climate change," he was quoted as saying.
