India to become world leader in tiger monitoring
Wildlife enthusiasts continue to flock to India in order to catch a glimpse of some of the world's rarest creatures.
The Asian country is the best place to see tigers in their natural habitat and the Ranthambore National Park is arguably the most special nature reserve on the continent.
One of the most appealing features of an India holiday is the chance to experience bustling cities such as Delhi one day, before heading into the peaceful countryside the next.
The number of wild tigers roaming around rural parts of India has increased slightly in recent years, but conservationists have found it difficult to keep track of the rare animals.
However, the National Tiger Conservation Authority has adopted a new protocol that could make it far easier to monitor and count the big cats.
New state-of-the-art technology will be deployed so that a more accurate census can be taken. Experts can now use special equipment to assess the faecal matter left by tigers and more sophisticated camera traps will also be set up.
