Festivals highlight Cape Town's passion for food
A number of festivals scheduled for 2012 will underline Cape Town's excellence when it comes to food and wine.
People taking South Africa holidays will be able to take in three events in May that are sure to see some of the finest chefs in the country and beyond demonstrate their talents.
The Cape Times V&A Waterfront Wine Affair will showcase wines produced by more than 75 different specialists from across the nation.
In addition to this, the iTownship Wine Festival - which will be held in taverns throughout the city - will enable tourists to sample a wide range of tipples.
However, the most coveted event is likely to be the Good Food and Wine Show. More than 50,000 people are expected to attend the event at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, where top cooks from around the world will create their signature dishes.
Bosses at the Diners Club reserved praise for South Africa's excellent reputation for winemaking during the 2011 Winemaker of the Year awards.
