BBC Launch Africa series

Tonight on BBC 1 at 9pm David Attenborough begins a six-part series on Africa. Exploring Africa's finest wildlife and most dramatic landscapes from East to West and North to South, the new series is set to rival last year's Frozen planet. Tonights episode begins in the Kalahari, an extraordinary ancient desert that runs across parts of Namibia, Botswana and South Africa. Water is extremely rare and in short supply here but the desert is still teeming with life.

This new film follows the clever meerkats, black rhino and giant insects alongside an abundance of birds and nasty spiders. The episode will also feature an epic giraffe fight as two giraffes defend their territory.
