Holiday to Egypt 'could include Hurghada exploration'

Travellers who take a holiday to Egypt may find the area around Hurghada a fascinating place to visit, if one expert's experiences are anything to go by.

Author Philip Parker recounted taking a trip to the region in an article for the Guardian, which saw him ride in a jeep to discover Roman remains.

He said the area was filled with granite columns, small forts and a temple.

"To travel along tracks that twist and vanish as soon as they are found … is to sense a little of the arduous lives of the miners of the Roman era, when water was nearly as precious as gold," Mr Parker wrote.
