Holidays to Nepal news: Everest Base Camp eco meeting planned
In news which may interest those planning a holiday to Nepal, the nation's government is set to meet at Everest Base Camp to discuss the peak's environmental future.
The issue of melting ice and snow due to global warming will be top of the agenda at the December 4th 2009 gathering, with prime minster Madhav Kumar Nepal among the party making the 5,250-metre ascent.
It is intended to coincide with the upcoming United Nations climate change meeting in Copenhagen next month, which is likely to see world leaders such as Gordon Brown and Barack Obama thrash out plans for slashing the planet's CO2 emissions.
Those looking to follow in the footsteps of the politicians and clamber to Everest's Base Camp could take the trip with Adventure Company.
Among the options for experience-hungry tourists is the Everest Gokyo Lakes Trek, which takes in spectacular water features and Lhasa Overland, which also includes visits to Tibetan monasteries.
