Travellers should 'be prepared for trekking holidays to Nepal'

Travellers taking a trekking holiday to Nepal can look forward to the country's spectacular scenery, but should ensure they are well-prepared for the altitude.

Maniraj Neupane, a final year medical student at a university in Kathmandu, made the assertions in a column for Nepal's Republica newspaper.

He explained that many travellers are attracted to the country thanks to its topography and the beautiful views it provides, noting: "A trip to or near the high mountains can be a lifetime experience."

But he remarked that trekking holidays to Nepal require "understandings of the basic principles of high altitude physiology".

This is because the human body is not used to functioning above 2,000m, meaning that travellers should take their time in ascending to heights of 2,500m or more, he advised.

Anyone thinking of booking holidays to Nepal may like to consider Adventure Company's Everest Base Camp trek or Himalayan Explorer trip, which includes a chance to take in the sites of the Kathmandu Valley.
