Egypt holidays news: Five ancient paintings returned to Luxor

Travellers could be inspired to book Egypt holidays after learning that five ancient wall paintings have been returned to the north African country.

The five Pharaonic wall paintings were given back to the nation of their origin after being stolen from Egypt, the country's Supreme Council of Antiquities revealed.

According to Chinese news agency Xinhua, Dr Zahi Hawass, head of the state organisation, said: "I have sent a letter one year ago to the Louvre Museum asking it to return the ancient paintings that were stolen from Luxor and smuggled out of the country more than 29 years ago."

He added that now they have been repatriated, the historic artefacts would be returned to the city of their origin.

Culture vultures keen to visit Luxor and see the ancient sights of the city for themselves may wish to take advantage of one of Adventure Company's holidays.

The Ancient Egypt Explorer Family Holiday and the Desert Experience Family Holiday both include trips to the city.
