Nepal sees increase in arrivals

More and more travellers are embarking on holidays to Nepal, official government statistics have suggested.

The Nepal Tourism Board discovered that the number of people arriving in the Himalayan nation by air rose by 1.1 per cent in 2009 compared to the previous year, The Travel News Gazette reported.

Numbers were up by 4.4 per cent year-on-year in December 2009, with a significant amount of that growth coming from European travellers.

According to the statistics, arrivals from UK travellers increased by 2.2 per cent last month, with France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Austria also accounting for the growth in tourist numbers.

Furthermore, the tourist board found that more than 75,000 trekkers visited the Annapurna region over the last 12 months.

The Adventure Company offers a number of holidays to Nepal which take in the mountainous area, including the Annapurna Circuit trip - which is widely regarded by trekkers as one of the world's classic routes.
