Egypt holidays news: Egypt plans international antiquities talks

History enthusiasts planning on booking family activity holidays to Egypt may be encouraged to do so with news that an international conference on ancient artefacts is set to be held in the north African nation.

The country's Supreme Council of Antiquities said the talks will be held in Cairo and are scheduled for April, although it has yet to confirm the exact dates.

It will use the summit to demand the return of relics which it claims were stolen from Egypt and are currently on display in museums around the world, head of the organisation Dr Zahi Hawass said.

Officials from a number of countries, including Peru, Mexico and Greece, will participate in the conference, he revealed.

"[They] will discuss taking action internationally to support efforts to return stolen antiquities to their countries of origin," he was quoted by AFP as saying.

Travellers who wish to visit Cairo at the time of the summit, or any other time, may wish to book The Adventure Company's Ancient Egypt Explorer Family Holiday.
