Walking holidays news: Cuba celebrates Jose Marti's 157th birthday

Culture vultures may be keen to book walking holidays to Cuba to take in the celebrations of the 157th anniversary of Jose Marti's birth.

Marti is considered by many to be one of the great turn-of-century Latin American intellectuals, having written essays, lectures, poems, letters, a novel and a children's magazine.

He died at the age of 42 in 1895 while engaged in the Cuban War of Independence against Spain.

The programme of events to honour his birthday was announced by the Committee of Jose Marti Institutions ahead of the January 28th anniversary.

Guided visits to museums and historic sites of interest will be held, Periodico26.cu revealed, along with the traditional March of the Torches which takes place in Havana on January 27th.
