Tanzania holidays news: Celebrities scale Kilimanjaro

Travellers keen to book trekking holidays in Tanzania may be inspired to do so by the exploits of a group of activists and Hollywood stars.

A party including actress Jessica Biel, Into the Wild star Emile Hirsch, rapper Lupe Fiasco and representatives from the UN succeeded in climbing Kilimanjaro, which at more than 19,300 ft in height is the tallest peak in Africa.

The group undertook the trekking challenge to raise awareness about the need for clean water - which one billion people across the world do not have access to.

On scaling the mountain, actor Hirsch described the experience as "the most intense and physically gruelling" activity he had ever been involved in.

"To have such a complete success for such a worthwhile cause … more than reaching the summit is what is really satisfying," he added.

Anyone who wished to replicate the achievement of the famous names can do so by booking one of The Adventure Company's Kilimanjaro Trek - Machame Routetrekking holidays.
