History lovers 'will be thrilled by Olduvai Gorge'

Travellers who are keen to combine their safari holidays in Tanzania with elements of history and archaeology have been urged to visit the Olduvai Gorge.

The site is where some of the oldest human skeletons have been discovered and has consequently been recommended by travel expert Sandi Bird as a must-see for those with an interest in the ancient.

Writing a column for news and advice site Huliq, Ms Bird said those who take in the attraction "will be thrilled".

Despite the fact that the gorge is still home to an active dig site which is used throughout the dry season, people can still head there during their safari holidays in Tanzania at any time of year, provided they are accompanied by an official guide.
