Escape busy Marrakech with a trip to Essaouira

Travellers keen to get away from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech during their Morocco holidays have plenty of options.

The city may be the North African country's most popular tourism destination, but its position near the Atlas Mountains means there are lots of day trips and adventures which people can enjoy in the surrounding area.

For instance, travel and language book producer Berlitz Publishing said the coastal resort of Essaouira is close enough to Marrakech to make it well worth a visit during Morocco holidays.

Although it used to be a popular haunt for pirates, Essaouira has cleaned up its act now and is particularly good for souvenir shopping and eating great seafood.

Managing director of the publisher Katherine Leck added that a walk in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains could be another enjoyable part of Morocco holiday itineraries.

"There is something for everyone here," Ms Leck commented.

Travellers keen to visit the attractions recommended by Berlitz should check out the details of The Adventure Company's Kids in the Kasbahs trip.
