Novelist recommends Egypt holidays

British author Anthony Horowitz has suggested travellers looking for adventure should consider Egypt holidays this summer.

Writing in the Telegraph, the author explained that his books starring fictional teenage spy Alex Rider have seen their protagonist visiting exotic locations such as Cuba, Thailand and the Caribbean, with the latest in the series finding him jetting to Egypt.

The writer described the nation as a "compelling holiday destination", adding: "Egypt is very safe. The people are welcoming. The country is endlessly fascinating and unthreatening - unless you're Alex Rider."

Horowitz said his trip to the pyramids at Giza had been "awesome" and explained how he had spent half an hour examining the site "in a daze", while the oasis town of Siwa offered "a real sense of the desert" in the middle of the Sahara.
