Tanzania holidays news: Climate change centre to open on Kilimanjaro

A new climate change centre carrying out research on Mount Kilimanjaro will encourage people to go on Tanzania holidays, it has been suggested.

The facility, which will be established by the Tanzanian government and the European Union, will act as a tourist attraction as well as a research facility.

Speaking to Tanzanian news source The Citizen, Dr Batilda Buriani said the primary purpose of the centre will be to work out how to mitigate the effects of climate change.

The minister of state in the vice president's environmental office said tourists will be able to see plants at the centre.

She added: "[My ministry] provides education to [those] living around the mountain and encourages them to plant trees as well as protect the environment."

Travellers are able to have a closer look at Kilimanjaro on one of The Adventure Company's holidays to Tanzania.

One option is the ten-day Kilimanjaro - Marangu Route trip, which allows tourists to stay in mountain huts and check out lush rainforest, moorland and the bare high altitude desert of upper slopes.
