Egypt holidays news: Cairo 'rewards exploration'

Author Anthony Horowitz has discussed his trip to Cairo on a recent Egypt holiday.

The writer decided to pay a visit to the city after sending one of his famous characters, Alex Rider, to the capital in an upcoming novel.

Speaking to Australian news source The Age, Horowitz said Cairo is a city which "rewards exploration".

He explained that the beauty of many of the mosques and madrasas he saw on the jaunt "takes my breath away".

Horowitz also took a look at Giza and the Pyramids and picked up some bargain jewellery at the city's souks.

"You have to look for the boxes within the boxes. That is, walk through Islamic Cairo, Coptic Cairo, Fatimid Cairo," he concluded.
