Walking holidays: Writer warns 'UN error could affect Nepal's climate change fight'

Eco-conscious travellers may be keen to book walking holidays to Nepal in a bid to support the country's efforts on climate change.

Earlier this week, the UN's Intercontinental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) admitted making an error in a previous study, in which it claimed that glaciers in the Himalayas are in danger of melting and disappearing by 2035.

Consequently, Ramesh Prasad Bhushal of The Himalayan Times pointed out the need for renewed international support in its bid to tackle the effects of global warming in Nepal.

The correspondent declared that the country's arguments for measures against climate change may have been weakened in some people's eyes following reports of the UN error.

And he warned that the issue of reliability from the IPCC may "help the climate change sceptics to raise their voice more loudly".
