Adventures in Lebanon

A holiday to Lebanon is perhaps not the first place that leaps to mind for a long weekend or an adventure break; however it’s a unique destination with a rich culture, and a fascinating history that is just a short plane ride away – perfect for lovers of unusual holiday destinations and great to discover on an organised tour.

Putting its war torn years firmly behind it, Beirut always had a vibrant reputation, known by many as the Paris of the Middle East, with numerous bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Travellers should check out the redeveloped Solidere section to see how far the city has come before you stroll down the corniche and take a drink near the famous Pigeon Rocks.

Moving away from the capital and extending your Lebanon travel to include the famous town of Byblos, once an integral holiday destination of the Hollywood glitterati and a former hangout of Sinatra and Brando. Reputedly one of the world’s longest inhabited towns it is filled with historical sites guarded by a crusader castle and surrounds a quaint port.

Journeying inland and you’ll discover the beautiful Lebanon and Chouf mountains, towns reminiscent of French villages, and caves used since Roman times as natural cellars for the locally produced wine which is well worth sampling!.

The standout highlight of Lebanon holidays has to be Baalbek; an impressive Roman site, arguably the most important in the Middle East, and a must see for anyone with any interest in history. Discover for yourself the near-perfectly preserved Temple of Bacchus and the remaining six giant pillars of the Jupiter temple, dwarfing anyone standing at their base – hardly surprising as they are the world’s largest. With vast courtyards, intricately carved lion heads, a snow-capped mountain backdrop and relatively few tourists, Baalbek is truly magical and a great place to explore.
