What is the view like from your office window?
Through my tent door office window, I see Africa! Some mornings I see the big vast open spaces of the Namib desert, or, I might wake up in the Delta, with a hippo grazing on the outskirts of our camp! Every day is different, that’s why I prefer to have a mobile office window!
What is the best thing about your job?
Meeting interesting people from all over the world and sharing my passion for Africa, the country that I love, with them!
What is the funniest thing that has ever happened on a tour?
We were camping in the Delta on a Cape to Vic falls tour, and we sitting around the camp, under the fig tree, with full bellies, lazy after a nice lunch… Then, out of the bushes, a big elephant bull appears, and walked through our campsite, feeding on the fig trees right by our camp! With big eyes we all retreated into our tents and watched the elephant feet through our tent windows!
What is the best place to visit in your country?
Kruger National Park because of all the wonderful animal sightings and amazing bird life. There is always something interesting in the park, every time I go, the experience is different!
What are your favourite aspects of the trips you lead?
To make my clients happy and have fun! I like informing my clients about animal behaviour and enjoy cooking for them.
What is the most interesting custom in your country?
Dowry or “Lobolla” the phrase more regularly used. This is when the husband to be has to pay the bride’s father for the hand of his daughter. The ‘amounts’ differ, if you marry a King’s daughter, the ‘amount’ would be about 64 cows and if you are not royal, 12 to 16 cows.
What is the most important phrase to learn in your language?
Sakubona – The Zulu word for hallo!
What is your life motto?
To praise the Lord in everything I do!
What are the most important items that a customer must pack for your tour?
- Hiking boots
- A swimming suit
- A fist aid kit! Because, TIA! (“This is Africa!!!)
