How long have you been leading trips for The Adventure Company:

5 years

What is your travel experience/background?

I am from Pokhara and have been involved in trekking for 10 years. I have visited nearly all of Nepal but I have never been outside of Nepal.

What is your favourite activity /event on the trips you lead?

Introducing clients to local people and sharing our culture and customs.

What is the best thing about your job?

Meeting people from different parts of the world.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

A really funny guy on our trip seemed to have a problem, his bottom was bleeding. I had to suggest to him that I take a look at what was happening….he was hesitant but finally removed his trousers. I found a big leech full of blood had firmly attached itself to his bum.

What is the best place to visit in your country?

Upper Mustang (Annapurna region)

In your mind, what is the most interesting custom in your country?

The traditions surrounding an arranged marriage (a custom involved in our wedding ceremonies). My own was just 3 years ago.

What is the most important phrase to know?

1) Jam, Jam (Let’s Go)
2) Ke Garne (What to do)
3) Namaste  (Greetings)

When is the best time to vist and why?

I think September & October is the best time to visit because the Himalayans are clear & there are many big festivals going on.

What are the most important items to pack for your tour?

A sense of humour and an open mind.

What our customers have to say...

Jagan is the best!  Kevin, AC 11DEC09

Jagan, the lead guide, went beyond expectation. He supported all the team whilst also allowing everyone to go at their own pace after the first couple of days (i.e. did not make the quicker ones hang back or the slower ones speed up to keep the group together.) In addition to that, he went out of his own way to sort out a superior tea house on christmas day and personally collected chickens so we could have a christmas roast dinner!
Furthermore, having had a baby on new years eve he came back to look after us on new years day whilst Nepal was having a nationwide strike to ensure that we got back to Kathmandu safely and on time for our flights. All in all, I cannot praise Jagan and his support guides (Kes, Hemraj & Leela) enough for how they made the trip for me.  Edgar, AC 11DEC09

Jagan was an excellent local guide.  He was knowledgeable, helpful and had a great fit with our group.  Phyllis, AC 11DEC09

Our guide Jagan was fantastic and totally made the trip special.  He was helpful, supportive and extremely good fun.
Christmas dinner - our guide Jagan arrange for us to stay at a top-notch tea-house, and went to Jomson to get us chicken so we could have a roast dinner. New Years Eve in Pokhara - our celebratory end of trip meal at Himalyan Encounters headquarters.  Jagan had heard us talking about mulled wine, had got a receipe for it and serve it up to us on New Year's Eve fantastic.  Jacqueline AC11DEC09

Our Group Leader has made this trek memorable… we appreciate everything he did for us... efficient, effective, motivating and sociable.  Freda, 11DEC09

Jagan was fantastic.  An excellent group leader, who tailored the trip to the people who were in the group.  He dealt with all problems/issues well, including supporting a girl who had lost her passport on the plane.  Where we had a long day ahead of us, he chivved us along nicely, and on days where it didn't matter he allowed us the freedom to potter along - but all the time he was acutely aware of where everyone was, and how they were feeling.  He managed the assistant guides and porters well, even carrying a pack when one of the porters twisted his ankle.  I cannot praise him enough!  Alan AC 11DEC09
