Hi Adell
I'm booked on the EBC trip departing 15 April as well. My flatmate is also coming along. Booked the trip a few months ago and can't believe how quick time is passing - we will be departing in no time!
David
Hi David and Adell my name is Sarah I'm also doing the Everest Base Camp trip and really looking forward too it. I too will be travelling solo, this will be my 4th trek. Busy trying to get fit and starting to think about kit especially with Xmas coming up. Might put a few things on my Santa list. Happy to meet up at Heathrow nearer the time let me know what time you are getting there. Hope all your prep goes well. Be in touch soon.

Hi Sarah, David and Adell, my name is Douglas or Dougie. I'm going on the everest trip and I can't wait. I'm going solo so it's nice to know there's others going on their own. This is my first trip with the adventure company so I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully everything will go well and might bump into some of you at heathrow.
Dougie.
Hi everyone. nice to hear from you all. sarah i will let you know when i get to Heathrow. I will be staying the night before as im travelling from the north of scotland. Dougie i have been on trips with this company twice now and enjoyed both loads so hopefully you will love it to! :) David i look forward to meeting you and your flatmate on the trip. If we all have our red adventure company tags on our bags we will spot each other iam sure.
I have all of my kit now just need to get all of the little things like blister pads, imodium and all of that stuff. Im thinking of sending off for my visa by post is anyone else doing this or are you getting at the airport?
speak to you all soon and hurry up April!!
You very organised Adell, you must have done this sort of trip before. I've still got alot to get before we go. I was planing to get my visa through the post too, but I think it's easier to get it at the airport so I might just do that.
Dougie.
Yeah i'm going to get my visa at the airport now i think. so long as others on our trip are doing the same. :)
Hi all,
My name is Rachael and I am also on this trek with 3 others, 2 of which I did Kili with only a few months ago so definitely up for doing another trek!!
We must nearly have everyone in the group now and would be good to meet up at heathrow as we didn't do that for kili.
Im impressed people are thinking of visa's already as I haven't even thought about it yet and was just going to wait till next year! Also has anyone thought about how much money we need to take with us as i really have no idea?!
Rachael
HI RACHEL MY NAME IS KEVIN DOING KILI IN FEB WHAT ROUTE DID U TAKE AND CAN U GIVE ME ANY TIPS NEVER DONE ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE DID U ENJOY IT
Hey I did the Machame Route!
was really good, first four days were pretty easy walking which i didn't find particularly strenuous but the night you attempt the summit is harder than anything you will have ever done more because you start walking at midnight and its so cold, and your tired and then there is the altitude to contend with but it is amazing and definitely worth it!! Also take lots of baby wipes as its so dusty and you get so dirty!! oh and take about 250 dollars for tiping although this seems alot you will be happy to give it at the end of the week as the porters and guides are amazing!! Hope this helps.
Hi rachael, I will be picking your brains about the Killi trip when we are on the ebc trip as i plan on doing that trip in 2012. Looking forward to meeting you and your friends.
I have gathered from reading other posts on the forum and the facebook page that we need around £10 - £15 a day. £15 on the trek if your buying all of your drinks higher up?
Hey all just a quick note to say feel free to add me on facebook if you are on there may be a bit easier to chat with everyone rather than on here?!
Hiya, just been on FB to add you but there are a few rachael garners on there! How do i know its you?
Adell
Hi
My name is Diana and I'm going on an earlier base camp trip(4/3/2011) trying to get my kit together but struggling to know what best to take. Does any one know whether ordinary water proof trousers over thermalsand trouseres etc will be sufficient or do you need salopette type things - when I've been skiing I've always found them really uncomfortable to walk in also I'm struggling to find a synthetic equivalent of a down jacket for ladies has anyone else found one?
As for visas hadn't thought about it so thanks for the prompt.
Diana
Hi
I'm not on your trip, I'm doing another trek same date. I can't comment on over trousers but last year when I was in Kathmandu it was easy to get down jackets. I know they are fakes but my fake Marmot is holding up a year later and only cost about £30. I hardly needed it on the Anapurna Sanctury trip but I'm told EBC is colder.
The visa was simple to ge at the airport you just need a passport photo and the cash in US dollars
Hi Diane,
I am not on your trip either, i am actually on the same one as Bob, but just thought i would offer you a bit of advice.
I did EBC a couple of years ago - it was very cold in the evenings and the day you walk to EBC is freezing because you start so early. However, i found normal walking trousers and waterproof trousers over the top was sufficient, and take thermals for when its really cold. salopettes are so uncomfortable and bulky and i really dont think they are necessary - its better to be able to layer.
I'm not sure about a synthetic version of a down jacket - i just took a down one and used it in the evenings at the tea houses when it was really cold. I used one i bought in Kathmandu on a previous trip (but the zip has since broke so i have bought a better one)- these are fine but you might not get a chance to buy one before your trek starts (Thamel is the best place to go if you do get a chance). Cotswolds or blacks normally have them in the sale after christmas for less than £100.
Anyway, apologies for the long email - hope its useful!
Louise
Thanks for the advice guys. Its all useful info. :)
Adell
thanks for the advice about the visa and clothes.I'll get some dollars organised did you use dollars or local currency at the tea houses?
Diana
Hi Diana,
you can only use local currency (Nepalese rupees) in the tea houses. As it is illegal to take it in or out of the country it is advised that you change up enough for your trek (and for tipping the porters as they will not come back to Kathmandu with you!).
in Kathmandu at the start of the trip
Hey adell, if u go on fb im the one with uni of southampton i think. Anyway just wanting to check is everyone on the gokyo lakes trek? xx
Cheers Rachael. I'm on the 18 day EBC trek not Gokyo Lakes.
Just doing the EBC trek as well and not Gokyo.
Is anyone else doing the Treksmart day on 12 Feb?
Any tips from the treksmart day David? :)

Dear all, (EBC 15th April - 2nd May)
I have only just discovered this site and it seems you are all miles ahead of me and organised to take over Heathrow airport and the back half of the plane.
I think its an evening flight so will be arriving at Heathrow (not sure of terminal yet) around 6ish. Is everyone meeting somewhere and do I need to have a red rose on my bag to be recognised? :)
Look forward to meeting you all?
Best, George
