Im not doing this trip so I dont know which regions it takes in but I went to vietnam this year and we took malarone which was fine. We travelled all over and as far as I know the only really affected areas for malaria are inland, particularly the northern regions. However we got bitten to shreds in the mekong delta and particularly a day trip to the cu chi tunnels so im glad we took it for peace of mind really.
