Yes, that's what appealed to me too! This will be my third trip with the Adventure Company, India and Kenya before, which were both fab! How about you? Oh, I should introduce myself really - I'm Anna.

This is my first! I've never actually been out of Europe, but I've always wanted to travel!
And this has been my first chance of being able to travel, so I'm just gonna go for it!

Brilliant! Throw yourself in at the deep end...its the best way! But you'll def be in safe hands with the Adventure co. I'm sure you'll be given plenty of tips as you prepare...I will have to rack my brains too! October will soon come around, I am trying not to wish away the summer but I'm so excited! Do you live near hills to help get your legs prepared? I am in Suffolk, which is lovely, but flat as a pancake! Nevermind!

Yeah already got sent a guide to trekking :)
I know what you mean, I can't wait but don't want summer to go too quickly.
I've been Suffolk way on holiday so I know what you mean by it being flat!
I live near the Preseli Hills in Pembrokeshire, Wales.. so yes there are a lot of hills, might go up Snowdonia before I go as well...

Lucky you in Pembrokeshire...hills and lovely beaches! I went camping in snowdonia last year...rained all the way up snowdon but still great fun! Yes, I have booked on my own. How about you?

Yeah the beaches are great! I'm sorry for the welsh weather! Not been great recently, so not much going down the beach :(
I'm on my own as well, will be my first time abroad completely by myself.. Ahh! But I really can't wait to get out there! :)

Hi,

So, just booked myself onto this trip and very excited about it.

I know I need a visa for Nepal, but as I'm coming via Delhi, does anyone know if any visa is needed for India. Seem to be finding different answers and just wondered what other travellers are doing so any advice grateful.

I'm going via Delhi aswell, Jet airways from Heathrow?

Have you read this in Trip Notes?
Visas & Permits - Nepal
Holders of UK & IRL passports do require a visa. A Nepalese visa can easily be acquired on arrival at Kathmandu airport or at the border from the immigration office. You will be required to fill in a form, submit 1 passport size photo and can be paid in GBP or US$ cash ($25 for a 15 day visa or $40 for a 30 day visa). Nationals of all other countries should contact their local embassy or consulate. Passports must be valid for at least six months after the end date of the trip. Information can also be found at www.travcour.com. This information is given in good faith, but may be subject to change without warning. Please note that, where appropriate, obtaining a valid visa is ultimately your responsibility. Please consult a visa agency or the consular authorities 4-6 weeks before departure for the most up-to-date information.

I assume we will just stay in the airport at Delhi so we might not need a visa... It is probs best to email them and ask :)

Hi,

Thanks for reply.

Yes, Jetairways from Heathrow for me as well.

Yes, I have seen the trip notes. And have had 3 different answers so far -

1 - Travcour - yes definately need a tourist visa

2 - India visa centre - depends on if you go through immigration. And that depends on if you have to go though immigration to connection flight - and then need a transit visa.

3 - Adventure Co - Not needed.

It would seem strange to have to get a visa just to swap planes - lol!

I really don't know anything about visas, I've never been out of Europe...
I think if the adventure company says its not needed, they are probs right, as many people have been on this trip. :)
Getting a visa for just swapped planes would be a bit pointless...

Hi! I am certain we won't need a visa for Delhi as the connecting flight is also with jet airways...we won't need to go through immigration, just off to the transit lounge! Plus I checked with the Adv Co, and the girl I spoke to went on this trip last year and she said just a visa for Nepal (which we can get when we arrive)...so I am.happy with that!
Only 4 months to go now....so exciting!!!

Hi,

Wow, Kenya must have been amazing. How long was you there for?

I have done a few similar group tripswhich were all different and fab in theier own way, but nothing like this one. The only camping I have done was 3 days on the Inca Trail last year.

Oh wow the Inca Trail! That have been pretty awesome! :)
I have done camping on the Duke of Edinburgh expedition... But that is about as serious as I have done with camping, done a lot in the back garden ;)
Really looking forward to the camping though!

I've been up Snowdon once for a charity event called the "Snowdon Push" where we had to push/pull a wheelchair bound person up to the top and back down again. Think we did it in about 3hr 45 min. It was an absolut killer, but so much fun!

Hi Pete! Snowdon push sounds impressive! We may be needing your skills to push us up those mountains! Really looking forward the trip, it will soon come round! Last week I cycled to Amsterdam which was a good bit of leg training, but I really want to get out and find some hills soon!

HaHa, I don't think I'll be pulling anyone on a wheelchair, but if you need a fireman's lift then we might be able to work something out lol.

When you say cycled to Amsterdam, where from? how far did you cycle? people think I'm made for cycling to & from work (not any more), but that was 16 mile each direction and i couldn't keep it up.

Hey, how come you all know where your flying from, have i missed something? I've only just booked so might just need to wait for my confirmation docs, or did you book flights separately?

Hi All,

Glad I'm not the only solo traveller as well.

Pete - they (Adv Co) told me flight details when I booked. But once you get invoice sent through that should have details on that.

I booked through Thomson and they told me the flight details when I was there, the Adv Co will have put you on the same flights if your in the UK and selected the price inc flights...

Pete... Wow! Pushing a wheelchair up Snowdon, its pretty steep in some places and really rocky at the top, I imagine it would have been a killer!

Ye, I'm no He-man there was a team of six of us!

Well, I like that we can chat on here and get to know each other a bit before going. Gwenllian your just up the road from me, i live nr Pontypridd, (ok a long road).

Haha, a long road... So are you Welsh as well or moved to Pontypridd from away?

Was born in Birmingham but moved to cardiff when I was 4, only moved to pontypridd to get on the property ladder. So I guess it depends on what makes a person Welsh, my life is here but my blood & birth place is English. You choose.

Hi folks,

Just paid for the trek today and am allowing myself to get excited now. It's finally real!

Good to know there are a fair few of us going from Heathrow together. I'm joining the trip on my own too :)

If anyone is based in the midlands, I'm in Birmingham so we could travel down together if that'd work.

Catch you all later,

James

Hi Pedaro

What a coincidence, I hiked up Pen Y Fan last weekend too, nearly killed me. I am going on the Himalaya Explorer Trek on the 6th October so just looked in to get some tips. Glad I'am not the only one who is worried that they are not fit enough. It has'nt been a great Summer to get ready for this adventure has it. Hope you all have a great time, I'am sure you will. Tina

I've been walking up the Preselis each week for the past month or so and go swimming every week. Think it has benefited me :)

I emailed the Adv Co about if we could go on a flight around Everest and we can!
I'm definitely going to do it. We can do it on day 3, before we have a tour around Kathmandu. It is an hour long and costs $160 (about £101) and 170NPR (about £1) for departure tax. We have talk to our tour leader when we get there to arrange it when we get there. Really hope I can do it!

Just over 5 weeks to go! :)

Oh wow, that's interesting. I'm going on this trip in November. I asked about the Everest flight when I first booked but they said it wasn't an option anymore. I was quite disappointed, but I'll email them now and see if it's possible too :). I heard that you have to do it early morning or else you risk it being cancelled/bad visibility so thought you would at least have to book in advance as the earlier flights go quickly.

The flight sounds like an amazing idea, I'm up for that. Well done!

Sounds fab....let's keep our fingers crossed the weather will be ok to do it! I have been out for lots of hikes, but its so flat round this way! So I have been doing extra bits at the gym that might benefit, although the hill climb machine is no substitute for the real thing, it can't hurt!

Redsheep: Will let you know how it went when we get back and if you have any questions hopefully we can answer them! :)
Let me know what adv co say about the flight, when I asked there was a lot of confusion about when it could be done but the woman I spoke to contacted the agent in Nepal and he said we can do it on day 3 and won't miss the tour of Kathmandu. I don't think any flights go to Everest other than in the morning I've heard.

Pete: How long does it take to walk up Pen-Y-Fan? It is not too far from me so I might go there and get more practice as I've done all the Preselis now.

Anna: I tried a treadmill on incline, it really wasn't the same! Your not falling in bogs or holes or tripping on tree roots like the real thing, well in the Preselis anyway!

I think if anyone wants to do the flight it might be best to let the Adv Co know in advance so they can tell the tour leader so they know a few of us want to do it.

Depends on your pace really and possibly the route you choose to start from. I start at the base where Story Arms is located. and a round trip is aprox 3hrs. but if you want to lengthen it there are plently of options from the top.

I'm going up again this Sunday with a group of friends, so I expect it to take longer.

Haha sorry. There has been a lot of heavy rain here lately, so its just boggy, and there has been a lot of deforestation in the area, so lots of tree stumps and roots. Some areas are a bit overgrown. But I love it really! Think I will head up Brecon way sometime soon!

Hey, how is everyone?
Finished getting everything now, few more jabs to go. I've even packed! And weighed my bags, think the limit for Jet Airways is 20kg and my rucksack is 9kg so that's good and my day pack is 4kg and hand luggage is 10kg I think, also I read somewhere for domestic flights it is usually 15kg.
Can't believe it is only 3 weeks to go!

I've known for a while how long it is in weeks to the holiday but I just looked at the date today and thought "oh wow that's getting close" lol

Jabs all sorted, not exactly packed yet, but gave my self a hug blister on saturday from walking Black Mountain.

Just need my plane tickets now, then I'll get excited!

I guess get the blisters our of the way now...but take a stack of compede just incase! I have been dog sitting for my parents the past few days, poor dog doesn't know what's hit him, he's been on that many long walks!
think I am just about sorted...just need to get some passport photos done to take along for the visa when we arrive.....
