Croatian River Adventure - Family Holiday

Excellent outdoor activities, perfect local guide, good balance between group activities and own time

[Least enjoyed] hotel location. location in village was less suitable for children, there was not so much to do for them and not really a good swimming location

Brilliant guy, excellent eye for safety, intelligent, caring and very quick in organizing extras

Safari & Beach Adventure

Sable mountain lodge

[Least enjoyed] Mnarani beach resort. Mnarani resort was not at the same standard as the other Accommodation. The food was poor and several of the group were ill. The tour stayed at four locations, sable mountain lodge was fantastic, mnarani spoilt the overall experience.

Hussein in Tanzania was a brilliant tour leader. The organization in zanizbar was not as good, ibrahim was more interested in selling tours to us, this part of the tour was unaccompanied, on departure day he did not let us know that he had changed the collection time to an hour later, which meant we were just waiting in the reception.

Serengeti Safari - Family Holiday

The Serengeti tent camp, safari drives, photo opportunities, magnificant landscapes, Zanzibar beach resort, the people in our group

[Least enjoyed] One or two of the drives were quite long.    Some of the prices seemed very steep e.g. $50 per car to visit a Masai village for only a short time; similarly $26 per person for a spice tour of just about one hour (including drive to and from hotel). The booking information gave guidance on driver/guide prices of $20 per day divided by the whole group, but we were told by the local head driver (Martin) that the price was $30 (50% more) which caused a problem on two fronts: firstly, budgetting and secondly, expectations. Different people have different experiences and so the group was left to sort out what we thought was a reasonable compromise.  It would be better if this part of the holiday was included in the price to avoid such problems.

Given the number of times we had to fill in our personal and hotel details at Airports, it would have been helpful to have had this information provided in one place beforehand.  In particular, for the Zanzibar transfer we did not know which hotel we were going to and our luggage did not arrive with us on the Precision Air flight from Arusha to Stonetown. We had to fill in a form for the missing luggage indicating where we were staying; had to get someone to find our driver outside Arrivals at Stonetown to pass us this information.  Further, we had to spend the first night in Stonetown without our luggage and no one including the hotel staff and travel rep (Ally) were particularly helpful in providing us with basic toiletries for the night (at this stage we did not know when our luggage would be returned). Ally did, however, turn up the following day to take us to the Airport to collect our luggage.

We had no issues with the accommodation provided.

We were given a different amount by the group leader for the payment of drivers which was 50% greater than the details provided in the booking information. There ought to have been clearer lines from the Adventure Company about this to avoid such problems.  Far better to have paid for this upfront rather than an extra (extra)!

Sublime Sri Lanka

There were quite a few things we really loved. The trekking in the Knuckles Mountains was fantastic.  The elephant gathering was great too. Sigiriya Rock.

The worst point was a hotel we were put in called the Wala Safari Hotel just outside Tissa. Please below for an expansion on this The Hill Club was awful! A wasted night. Kids hated it as did we.

The accommodation was of a high standard generally although we had big problems with one hotel who assaulted our local guide when he took us to a nearby restaurant rather than us eating at the hotel. It was generally dirty and we were given two single beds pushed together as a triple room. This wasn't really acceptable for a 14 year old girl and her parents. (The Wela Safari Hotel) The accommodation in Knuckles was outstanding. best food in Sri Lanka! Coastal hotel was of a very high spec and very lovely. Generally the hotels were miles away from anywhere which meant were were sort of trapped there. I had hoped we would be able to get out and explore a bit more on foot

[Comments on itinerary] If I am honest we felt a bit stifled. We had anticipated rather more adventure and less being herded around from place to place and watched at every step. The hotels were all miles out of town or villages so we felt that we had almost no opportunty to explore anywhere. A whole day in Galle would have been good. Also why on earth do you put people in Bandarawela which is grim when Ella which is beautiful is down the road.

Nuwan was delightful but it would have been nice if sometimes he had dropped us off and left us too it a little. He came everywhere with us. he seemed to feel he had to over fill our time. however he also came up with a couple of extra suggestions which were fantastic. the rain ride in the mountains and the Pelawera were fantastic. Little bit too much going to sari shops and wood carvers early on but after we discussed this it stopped.

Elephant Paradise - Family Holiday

Rafting, camping in the tea plantation. The kids loved the turtle hatchery. The adults loved the 3 nights at Rana212

[Least enjoyed] Galle city tour. it was too hot for just walking around a city. We either needed to stay longer or go earlier/ later. Also it was a shame the tea processing factory was not operating when we got there. More could have been made of the camping trip. Ie picking our own tea then seeing it processed. It would have been educational to experience life as a tea picker.

Some hotels were excellent ie Rana 212. Some were poor ie Orient. Others better than ecpected. So all in all good.

We have done 7 of these types of holidays. Nala is one of the best we have had.

Elephant Paradise - Family Holiday

The guide, Nalaka Palipane, was excellent. My highlight in terms of activities was the white-water rafting. The standard of hotels was very good - overall higher than my expectation.

Although beach hotel was lovely, it would have been good to have stayed somewhere where it was safe to swim in the sea.

Tiger Trails & Taj Mahal - Family Holiday

The observatory at Jaipur was amazing.  Spending a morning in a local school was fantastic.

Be prepared for a lot of travelling.  India is a vast country and the distances between stopping points are correspondingly great.  It is quite a tiring trip because of the travelling and there aren't any rest days, each day is busy.  Also be prepared for a lot of interaction with the locals, especially those selling "souvenirs", they can be a bit "in your face".

[Comments on itinerary] Making the trip a 13-day experience, with an extra couple of rest days where you could just chill out, would be really useful.

The accommodation was very good, much better than I expected.  Cleanliness was good and the staff were always helpful.  The swimming pools were clean and seemed well looked after.

Our group leader, Avdesh, was fantastic, a real star.  He always made sure we had everything we needed, always took care of our dietary needs at meal times and really made the trip something a bit special.  He advised us how best to manage the vendors at every site we stopped at, how to haggle, and was a treasure of information about everything.

Good Morning Vietnam! - Family Holiday

The guide Vuong was outstanding. He took us to excellent restaurants in all different price categories and was extremely resourceful. He added in little extras to itineraries to make it more interesting and on one occasion  sorted out a taxi so we could visit a temple on a day when pretty much everyone in Vietnam had commandeered them for weddings. He was also very good with the teenagers - on their wavelength. The homestay in the Mekong was very nice indeed

[Least enjoyed] I think I would have liked to have the option (before departure) of rooms with a better view or slightly more room. Or even the odd night away from our teenage son to give everyone a bit of space/privacy.

[Accommodation] It was clean and well located but not inspiring or especially interesting. we knew we would have to share with our son but it was never spacious (apart from final night in Saigon) The homestay was excellent - Ut Trinh

He was exceptional
