Mountains & Tigers - Family Holiday

Seeing the Himalayas on a clear day.
The Taj Mahal
Excellent food.

[Least enjoyed] Several long days in a coach. The one used between Delhi & Agra had no suspension! Delhi traffic is horrific of course!

Office staff seem to have minimal knowledge of the trip. The advice they provided regarding clothing needed was extremely poor in particular. It would be helpful if someone had in-depth knowledge of the trip.

Great action packed trip in an extraordinary country full of delightful people. We thoroughly enjoyed the diverse places that we visited, although with the benefit of hindsight, we would have preferred more countryside and less city time. Some of the excursions and restaurants were more expensive than necessary, (cookery lesson was more commercial and expensive than we expected, the bikes we hired for the children at Hoi An were in poor condition and expensive, and we would have liked to experience more authentic and less expensive food more often). The motor bike ride in Hue was fabulous, a particular highlight, as was the visit to the market, the kindergarten and nunnery. Boat at Ha Long bay was shabby and the deckchairs falling to bits, poor show! The generator running below our cabin all night, meant we had no sleep. Followed by a sleepless night on the "sleeper" reunification express. Both important elements of the trip and very enjoyable otherwise. Our guide Laki was very good, although not as good as Vinnie in Costa Rica who was a hard act to follow. His English was difficult to understand at times, especially when presenting at the Chu Chi tunnels, so we missed key bits of information. He also rushed us through Chu Chi  to avoid the crowds, which was unnecessary and spoilt the experience a bit. However, he was very flexible, always cheerful despite being messed around once or twice by some members of the group changing their minds at the last minute.

Laki was lovely and a real asset to the trip. Not the best we have experienced but very good nonetheless.

Winter Activity Week

Our hosts - Nuria and Nick were simply outstanding.  They simply couldn't do enough for us and made us feel very welcome indeed.

Because the cost price of this holiday is a lot, we expected much nicer accommodation and food.  However, it turns out that the hotel charges only 60 or 65 euros per person in high season for half board, which is much more commensurate with the standard of accommodation and food we had.  It's not really clear why this holiday costs what it does because the real value seems to be in some of the slightly less tangible things such as the welcoming nature of the hosts and their care, attention and time.  I hope they receive good payment from the Adventure Company for what they do, as they completely make the trip.  Without them, we would have been exceedingly disappointed.

Our group leaders were the hotel owners.  They were excellent as discussed before.

Our safari guide (Hassani Mwenjuma) was fantastic, very knowledgeable, courteous, organised and fun to be with.  The two safaari locations that we visited (Mikumi and Sadaani) were fabulous.  The staff were friendly and helpful, the accommodation was stunning and we were delighted to be able to see all the wild animals we had hoped to spot. The whole holiday was a marvellous adventure and totally exceeded our expectations.

Our group leader was brilliant, or as my children would say, he is a legend!

Elephant Paradise - Family Holiday

Elephant safari, paddling in the river with the locals and then white water rafting on Christmas day

On several occasions we missed lunch or got a snack very late as the guide forget to ask the driver to stop.
The guide didn't give us any indication of what activities would involve and suitable clothing etc needed.  This meant that we often seemed to be wearing inappropriate clothing when we got soaking wet.
Optional activities were ignored unless we specifically asked for them to be booked.
The trip to a tea factory did not happen despite it being discussed earlier in the day.  We did not get any explanation as to why this was.

Mountains & Tigers - Family Holiday

'The trip allowed us to get a unique experience of the foothills of the HImalayas in a way we never would have done if we had travelled independently.

The trip was at Christams and the weather information seemed too general - i.e. it was quite cold and none of the group had sufficient warm clothing.

The Lodge in the hills was very cold and not very clean - but a gorgeous setting!

Avdeesh went out of his way to be helpful to everyone and remained cheerful and lively at all times. Really good with the children too.

Halong Kayaking, Christmas day rural cycle ... and our guide was extraordinary. Every day ran like clockwork - lots of knowledge about local economy, politics and cultural insights. Can't understate what an extraordinary time I had. I am writing to the CEO or Buffalo Tours to tell him.

The diversity of cultural experience was extraordinary. As a social development practitioner, I was so impressed by the depth and breadth of the tour itinerary. Not for the faint hearted however - up at 8.30 and five different visits before lunch ... long rides on a motorcycle and bicycle and a few hours to catch your breath per day.

Understandably, we visited challenging environments and considering the poverty levels and existing political regime, we could hardly expect more updated accommodation, which did add to the authenticity of the experience.

My only concern was the state of the train tracks for the reunification express. All adults in the group agreed that they were nervous of this particular mode of transport.

We had a fairly diverse group from a professional POV - banker, internet security, social worker, government employee, artists ... and our guide dealt with us with such nuanced understanding and sophistication we felt quite bereft having to say goodbye to him last night. We have all invited him to stay with us should he visit the UK. We count him as a friend.

Pide of Lions by the road. Also our guide helped us find a church near Morogorw on Christmas day which was biuilt by a great aunt - shared in the Swahili service! The standard of accomodation at Sadaarni opark was outstanding

We all had a fantastic time & gained much frtom the variety. Our guide Hassam (? spelling) was an excellent tour leader whos calm good humour & attention to detail made the trip run very smoothly.

see above comments - one of our best tour guides ever

Magical Morocco

The donkey ride to Atlas mountain village and the lunch in the village were great fun and the food was the best we had all holiday.  The kids loved walking along the beach in Essaouira.

Mohammed our guide was brilliant.  He was good with the kids and always made sure we had safe and appropriate food for them.  He was very interesting and a good balance between finding out things for yourself and guiding us through the holiday.
