Active Turkey - Family Holiday

The holiday provided a great mixture of activites to keep my 14 year old son happy and enough chill-out time for me to take some rest time!

[Least enjoyed] Out local rep was somewhat brusque in her manner and not very approachable.

It would have been useful on arrival to have been provided with a list of the trips/ the costs of each / whether lunch was included and the dates they were running.  We were given this information verbally.

Glaciers and Geysers

Glacier hiking and climbing but this was self organised and not part of the tour.

Unlike all the other adventure company holidays I have been on, I did not feel that we were looked after by the guide and it did not have that small adventure group feel. Was more like a coach trip style holiday, so that was disappointing. No evening assistance and on our free days the guide fid not have anything to offer just pointed to leaflets on the wall.

There was no guide to greet us on first evening of tour. We had no idea what time to meet next day or where. None of the usual run through of plan for the week, which resulted in everyone wearing the wrong type of clothing etc, not packing stuff because no idea of plan for the day. Also very disappointed only got 1 hour at blue lagoon and then dumped back at hotel for 15:00 with nothing left to do for the evening. If had known this, we could have stayed longer and perhaps got a bus  back if tour guide not wanting to work after 15:00, which seems quite early compared to other holidays.

Hotel Fron in very good location, the down side is Friday and Saturday evenings when Iceland likes to party all night long, so no sleep on those nights. The hotel Grand on the last night was of a very high standard. Not as close to the shops and restaurant as hotel Fron but 5 min walking distance of local thermal swimming pool which is great for children and the only thing that was cheap!

As mentioned previously no briefings. His role did not cover what i know as an adventure group leader more of a day trip rep. Having said that he was a nice person and keen to share his knowledge of Iceland when with us. Sadly no socialbility outside of the day trip hours, no suggesting of places to eat or go in evenings, not interested in organising any activities for free days. We had to call the adventure company twice, once re free day questions and also dispute regarding itinerary, northern lights, which you promptly sorted.

Slovakian Snow Adventure

Our second time as a teenage departure with two teenagers who are advanced skiers and dubious as they wanted a full week skiing as usual we wanted something slightly different! All had an excellent time gelled as a group straight away and the boys managed to night ski well organised by our guide which made up for their lack of skiing came back saying it was wonderful.

The trip notes and itinerary led you to believe that for all organised activities all costs were included and this included the lift pass for skiing/snowboarding, the cost was clearly identified for the optional day as needing to buy one. All 14 of the group were of the same opinion and all had our trip notes with us. We were asked the level of skier prior to departure and nothing mentioned over the phone, all additional costs were listed and lift pass not mentioned we were told while there that it used to include the lift pass but under utilised i cannot see how as even the beginners had to go and buy a pass on instruction from the ski instructor. There were families there on a very limmited budget and the lift pass had not been budgeted for.

very helpful staff at the hotel

Extremely helpful our two teenagers went night skiing and took two other party members with them He organised the taxi to take and collect them then armed them with his mobile in case of any problems organising equipment hire and lift passes which on the first night they needed to contact him and everything was organised instantly, very good rappor with teenagers.

*** Note from The Adventure Company. Since receiving this email we have now refunded the cost of the lift passes as this should not have been charged as is included in the cost of the holiday.

The long transfer time from Vienna to Zuberec could be considered part of the holiday. It certainly felt as if we were travelling to a remote area. The main downside was having to travel to and from Heathrow. This is the main reason why we organise our own holidays. Better regional departure options would be welcome.

Very welcoming family run accommodation. I think perhaps the heating  was set a bit too high for our arrival - I presume some concern had been expressed about our ability to cope with temperatures of minus 20.

Currently waiting on response from customer services over havign to pay for ski lift passes on day 1&2 which the itienry implied were included in price. The airport->pension journeys were long woudl have been nicer to stop at a small cafe/restuarant rather than roadside garage with limited food/refreshment options.
Apart from that the trip was outstanding, and the whole family had an absolute ball

[ Least enjoyed] The long journey from the airport. The museum trip which was all in slovakian for 2 hours, needed to be shorter or have english translation but am aware local guide is working on this.

Expected family room or adjoining room when travelling with a 10 year old in our group of 4, whilst we had neighbouring twin rooms, we were not comfortable leaving both children together in their own separate room, so we ended up splitting adults and children

Petr was absolutely fantastic

Dog Sleigh & skiing were excellent. Something different and good range of challenge to meet all needs. An excellent introduction to skiing for all the family.

The visit to the outdoor museum needs work on it for it work for an English speaking group. It was particularly difficult on this occasion because of very heavy snowfall.

I am currently in dispute with then Company over the charges incurred for ski passes which were not identified in the paperwork and which were a significant cost. It is quite wrong not to include the cost of ski passes in itinerary activities and does The Adventure Company no service to try to hide costs in this way.

Couldn't wish for anyone better.

Saharan Sands - Family holiday

Camping in the desert was fantastic if a little chilly. The children loved the freedom and enjoyed hurling themselves down the dunes.

Camping 'Berber style' is essentially sleeping under blankets on sticks and when we were there in Feb it was EXTREMELY cold. Also on site the toilets were not always functioning and the showers were more of a dribble than a downpour. However the children thought this lack of washing facility was a positive!

What a star

Saharan Sands - Family holiday

The highlight for our children was definitely playing on the sand dunes with the other children on the tour. For the adults it was either bartering in the souks of Marrakech or the amazing number of stars visible at night in the desert. The pace of life in the desert was also a real plus. Within days of being on the tour work felt a million miles away.

The wait in Casablanca airport on the first night was the least enjoyable part of the trip. A three hour wait late at night with children when you don't have any currency is not the best way to spend the first evening. It does add a sense of getting of the beaten track however.

At first I thought that perhaps more could have been put into the itinerary than just going to Tazzarine and essentially just waiting there for a night either side of the camel trek. On reflection though it really helped set a relaxed pace that made the trip more enjoyable.

The hotel in Marrakech was a bit of a disappointment. It was a reasonable distance from the Medina (although there was a direct bus) and the rooms were not that great. In particular a hotel with reliable hot water after a few nights in the desert would be appreciated.

Our group leader Slimane Aziz and his assistant Mohamed Mazoz were bout outstanding and I would recommend them to any group. They were particularly good with the children teaching them Moraccan cards and learning some their games. Slimane's knowledge in particular was excellent and he answered all questions confidently or would find an answer if he didn't know. His organisation skills were outstanding and the trip ran very smoothly. None of the group wanted to do the tour of the Atlas Studios and he dealt with this easily, ensuring we got to see other things in the extra time this generated. Both of them are highly recommended.

Journey to the Lost City - Family Holiday

Wadi Rum camp camel ride to see sunrise-truly magical, Petra-awe inspiring

Aqaba-advertised as beach/snorkelling, bit of a nothing destination. Snorkelling was ok but boat very slow, wasted 90 mins in transit

Should have been told that church at mt Nebo was closed for reconstruction

As a married couple I expected double beds not twins
International class hotels should serve alcohol

A lovely guy, knowledgable, helpful, funny and interesting
